Goldie’s Tavern

The southside has just welcomed a reimagined neighbourhood pub with the energy and schedule of a sports bar, but the warmth and familiarity of a local watering hole. 

Goldie’s Tavern is now situated on the corner of Melbourne and Merivale Street where Pig ‘N’ Whistle West End previously lived. It’s been purpose-built for sports fans with dedicated viewing zones featuring big screens broadcasting all major matches live and loud. In between quarters, you can play a round on the pool tables, set your sights on the live entertainment or simply work your way through the extensive drinks offering in the beer garden. 

Forget the bag of crisps because Goldie’s Tavern is doing game-day snacks like Philly cheesesteak wontons with bourbon BBQ sauce, loaded nachos with beef barbacoa, lasagne bites and South Melbourne-esque dimmies on the menu. There are also generous pub classics like beef and Guinness pie with mash, sticky plum pork ribs, chicken parmi, steaks from the grill, and the cajun crab cake sando with celery remoulade, pickles and onion rings.

And if there isn’t a game you’re interested in that night, Goldie’s will still give you plenty of reasons to visit like sports-themed trivia and $25 parmi nights on Tuesdays, $26 steak nights and pool competitions on Wednesdays, and DJs to wrap up the week.
