Known for bringing traditional Hellenic feasting into the now, Jonathan Barthelmess gave the Greek taverna a swanky update with The Apollo Restaurant in Sydney. As avid fans of Greek food in all forms, we frothed it, and we’re frothing harder still now that Barthelmess has brought tavern 2.0 to Brisbane with Greca.
Taking over a spot in the heritage listed Howard Smith Wharves beneath the Story Bridge, Greca features a shareable menu championing the simplicity of traditional Greek flavours. Respect for the old school extends to the kitchen itself as Greca uses old school cooking methods in the open kitchen, relying on a hectic fire pit and stone ovens to prepare their feasts. Naturally, given the adoration for The Apollo, Greca’s menu also includes some spruced-up OG Apollo dishes.
As for the digs, expect a Spartan vision in Mediterranean whites and polished concrete, as well as some open-air dining to make the most of the river views.
