Corn fritters on a plate with smashed avo, salsa and bacon

Now open in East Brisbane is Hey Joe, a sizable addition to the east side's brunch scene. Having taken over a corner spot in Lytton Road's local shopping precinct, this spacious cafe has room for plenty of local and non-local brunch seekers alike, with an industrial-inspired interior and lashings of light streaming in through the wide windows.

The menu has you covered from morning to night, with an all-day breakfast and lunch menu making way for a hefty list of burgers and mains come evening. Though the feeds are familiar, there's Indian influences throughout, as you'll find if you order the Eggs Kurjiwal Bhurji, a delicious plate of spiced capsicum and chilli scrambled eggs served with housemade spinach flatbread. Other noteworthy inclusions on the lengthy day menu are the crispy cauliflower and corn fritters, the breakfast gnocchi with poached eggs and the smashed pumkin on toasted Turkish bread. There's plenty of vegan and gluten free options too, if you swing that way.

On the dinner menu, wrap your hands around saucy wings and a BBQ pulled pork sloppy joe burger, or be a little bit classier with the garlic prawn risotto. The bar is well-stocked with drinks too, including wines, beers and a classic cocktail list (there's mimosas on the brunch menu, hint hint). It may not be enough to cross the river for, but for any East Brisbanites in need of a new local, Hey Joe ticks all the boxes.
