City commuters, say hello to your new morning go-to, with Mulga Bill’s opening on the CBD side of the Kangaroo Point Bridge. Directly overlooking the soaring green bridge, this relaxed, open-air spot is dishing up casual all-day dining from morning to night, whether you’re in the mood for a coffee and a pastry on the way to the office or a wine and a pizza on your way home.
Squeezing in just 60 seats, ranging from plush mustard booth seating inside to a mix of high and low tables outside under the umbrellas, the venue is something different for the Tassis Group (who are also behind the likes of Massimo, Opa, Longwang, Fosh and others), and their first to open for breakfast—but the lack of brunch experience certainly doesn’t show.
On the morning menu (which kicks off at 7am—you can grab coffee and pastries from 6am) you’ll find the likes of woodfired eggs with kefalograviera cheese, sausage and sourdough, avocado toast with whipped feta and our favourite, the brekky pizza topped with woodfired eggs. Pair your choice with something from the lengthy list of specialty lattes, teas, juice, or our pick, the Mulga Matcha, an iced matcha latte with a seasonal compote added.
Later in the day and into the evening, you can grab a table for hot and cold tapas like burrata with fennel jam, saganaki cheese, lamb ribs and spicy herb oysters, large plates of woodfired paella, slow-cooked lamb ribs and fried barramundi with orzo pasta, and woodfired pizzas (which you can also get takeaway). In true Tassis tradition, there’s also a seven-piece banquet for $50pp, and while they’re waiting on a liquor license for now, you’ll very soon be able to sip on cocktails, wines, beers and morning mimosas.
