The bakery-sized hole in King Street’s heart is about to be filled with a new contender, bringing with it daily fresh pastries, perfectly crusty sourdough, loaded sandwiches and more.
Opening on Thursday 26 June, Queen Amann Bakery specialises in authentic kouign-amann—a French pastry cake that’s buttery, layered, and oh-so sweet. You can also expect handcrafted focaccia and rustic sourdough sandwiches, served alongside freshly squeezed juices and expertly brewed specialty coffee.
Queen Amann Bakery is backed by a team with a wealth of experience, with owners Larry Lim bringing extensive years in coffee and hospitality, while Ania Kutek and Eddy Tice are the duo behind beloved Brisbane bakeries like NYC Bagel Deli, Cordelia Sourdough Bakehouse, and Superthing Bakery. “Knowing that the King Street community has been eager for a new bakery makes us even more thrilled to be opening Queen Amann,” says Lim. “We’re excited to bring our passion for quality baked goods to the neighbourhood, including our signature kouign-amann—which is, as we like to say, flaky, buttery, and a little full of itself.”
As for the name? It’s the correct pronunciation of Queen Amann’s signature offering, which simply translates to butter cake.
