Since nabbing the championship title in My Kitchen Rules 2024, Simon Prest has been sharing his passion for Italian food across Brisbane. First he brought us the CBD’s refined Euro-centric destination in Doughcraft. Then he leaned into street food with Scugnizzi. And now he’s opening an Italian tapas-style restaurant on Oxford Street in Bulimba named after his son, Romeo.

Rather than carb-loading on a big bowl of spaghetti, Romeo invites you to enjoy multiple rounds of smaller dishes—where each bite is crafted to deliver intensity, balance and personality. Naturally, signature pastas will appear on the menu, but each plate is made to be savoured along a broader journey of flavours including snackable desserts you can easily make room for.

“Each of our venues has its own identity and personality, which is something we are very intentional about,” said Prest. “Our vision is to continue creating Italian spaces that are distinct in concept, atmosphere and experience, while remaining authentic to our heritage.”

Romeo’s beverage offering will feature a strong selection of Italian wines alongside premium Australian labels and a modern cocktail list to complement the tapas-style concept. Don’t expect a traditional Italian trattoria; Romeo is as contemporary as they come and encourages guests to stay a little longer.

“My team and I are bringing a concept built on passion, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality,” said Prest. “Our aim is to contribute something meaningful to Bulimba—not just food, but an experience.”

Romeo is set to open very soon.
