A good sandwich is anything but simple, as you’ll find at Ascot’s new sandwich spot Sarni. Coming to us from the team behind Ach Wine Bar (with the addition of one of their good friends), this casual eatery has nailed the humble stack, baking their own focaccia, ciabatta and other breads for a hand-written sandwich menu that changes almost daily.
Don’t expect a simple ham and cheese number here—instead the crew are playing with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients for creations like the Mortadella, with a generous handful of mortadella, pesto, rocket, cheese and whole egg mayo, and the Dressed Courgette Ribbons, with salted, roasted and sumac dressed zucchini, tahini ricotta and fried chickpeas. Of course there’s also a regular toastie, morning-worthy sandos and even a weekly epic weekend special that will only be available in limited numbers but available to pre-order—just keep an eye out on their Instagram to catch it.
There’s plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a sandwich break, with a homely dining area put together almost entirely by the team themselves, who took on everything from carpentry to painting to complete the fit out. The ample dining room will come in extra handy later down the track, when they plan to add evening hours into the mix, featuring small plates and a short but sweet booze menu.
For now, we highly recommend you head in to try that mortadella sando before the kitchen decides to switch things up—or just head back every week to see what else they’ve decided to put between two slices of bread.
