Two soft shell tacos with meat and salad fillings.

Fans of Barbecue Mafia take note—the team behind the cult-worthy purveyors of low-and-slow-cooked meats have launched another venture that will get you drooling, this one dedicated to all things Tex-Mex. Taking over Upper Mount Gravatt’s Cenzo’s Cafe + Bar from Thursday to Saturday (Cenzo’s will still operate as a cafe by day, and supply the drinks—including frozen margaritas—to go with the meaty feeds by night), South Austin’s menu features those same slow-cooked meats you love at Barbecue Mafia, only now they’re wrapped up in tortillas and topped with delicious Tex-Mex sauces and spices.

From smoked brisket tacos piles with guacamole, tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo and red onion pickle to smokey beef shin stew tacos loaded with melted cheese, onion, chili and coriander (plus broth for dipping), everything on the menu combines the best of Barbecue Mafia’s legendary meat smoking prowess with the Tex-Mex flavours you know and love. Personally, we’ll be going back regularly for their birria tacos, stuffed with smokey beef shin stew, cheese, onion, chilli and coriander and served up with a cup of broth for dipping.
