After the departure of Three Blue Ducks, W Brisbane was left with a hole to fill in their food and beverage offering—and filled it they have with their new arrival, The Lex. This sophisticated new eatery is inspired by the iconic New York-style grills but has a distinctly Brisbane flavour, showcasing hyper local produce and natural cooking techniques in a terrace-style venue overlooking the Brisbane River.

The spacious venue’s interiors have been given a full revamp from interior designer Nic Graham, who was the original designer behind W Brisbane. Sleek and sexy, The Lex combines a classic Queenslander feel with a sophisticated colour palette, featuring a burgundy ceiling overhead, olive panelled walls and rattan chairs—basically, you wouldn’t recognise the place if it weren’t for that spectacular view over the Brisbane River.

The menu here is all about familiar favourites given a playful twist—start with a quirky Fremantle octopus hot dog and fancy tater tots with Avruga caviar, and move on to the Tasmanian ocean trout cured with soy and mirin (a must-try) and grilled champagne lobster. Mains come straight from the grill—think cauliflower steak with fermented cashew and macadamia cheese, dry-aged rocky point cobia with a herb and macadamia crust and a wagyu cheeseburger.

The real star of the show though, is the dry-aged tomahawk steak, best ordered with a side of mac ‘n’ cheese and a Ceasar salad tossed right next to you at the table from a roving trolley. Make sure you leave room for dessert too—the peanut butter chocolate bombe is calling your name. If you book in with a group, you can order champagne cocktails from a tableside cart too—but don’t worry if you’re just here for an intimate date night, because the regular drinks menu is equally as impressive.
