It was a sad day when The Smug Fig announced that they were being forced to move on from their East Brisbane garden store location to make way for a new development, but you can wipe away those tears, because this much-loved cafe has a new home, and it’s looking better than ever before. Landing just a hop, skip and a jump away over in Stones Corner, the cafe has taken up residence in a relaxed, open venue with an all-new mural by local artist Yannick Blattner to gaze on taking up one entire wall.

The menu has also had a change up with the new digs, but don’t worry—their ever-changing French toast special is still an integral part. Other brunch dishes on offer include the buckwheat pancakes with honeycomb cream, caramelized banana, macadamia and butterscotch, or the avocado and halloumi stack with bacon and poached eggs on sourdough. Bonus, as well as dropping in for breakfast, you can now stop by for evening feeds, with the venue open on Friday and Saturday nights with share plates, charcuterie boards and a handful of hearty mains available alongside wines, beers and spirits.

And for those who loved being able to pair weekend brunching with plant shopping at the old space? Well right next door to the new Smug Fig Kitchen & Social is All Things Leafy, a groovy plant store where you can pick up a new green baby and a bunch of flowers while you’re at it.
