Say hello to Holland Park West newcomer, The Ukrainian Club Brisbane. Officially opening on 12 May, this eatery has been a long time coming—and is much, much more than your usual neighbourhood restaurant. After delaying their launch for 14 months to focus on assisting the thousands of displaced Ukrainians that have settled in Queensland recently (which they are still doing), the team behind this humble establishment are eager to welcome one and all to their little slice of Ukraine here in Brisbane.
As well as providing employment for some of those displaced Ukrainians, The Ukrainian Club is owned and operated by charitable organisation The Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc., who reinvests all their profits into the support work they do for Ukrainians in Queensland—so you can feel good about dining out for once.
That’s not the only reason to eat here though—this is your chance to sample some authentic Ukrainian cuisine. The menu offers up a selection of rich, homely, Eastern European feeds—think slow-cooked beef goulash, chicken kyiv and beef stuffed cabbage rolls. Personally we’re keen to try the medovyk—a traditional Ukrainian layered honey cake made with multiple layers of sponge cake and a creamy honey buttercream filling.
