Dreaming of your next Bali getaway? Well, Warisan has opened its doors in Fortitude Valley to give us a little slice of Indonesia. Offering a vibrant atmosphere that’s spiced up with a grunge edge, this new hot spot, tucked up next to Hynes Street, reinvents Indonesian cuisine with a quirky modern twist. Brought to you by the creatives behind Luckies Kitchen in Bulimba, owner Nick Wrigley and ex-head chef Alfan “Alfie” Musthafa, Warisan is decidedly casual and the perfect new addition to your lunch and dinner rotations.
Chef Alfie has outdone himself with a menu that celebrates the dishes of his childhood. Brilliantly marrying authentic Indonesian flavours with his fresh contemporary flare, each bite offers a perfect balance of spice, salt, and sweetness, that’s all rounded off with a satisfying hit of umami. And with plates ranging from small to large, there’s something for every occasion.
For all you snackers, their crispy chicken skin and stuffed fried tofu is the perfect indulgent bite. As for all those looking for a good hearty meal, the bebek goreng Surabaya (Surabaya’s style fried duck), ikan kakap bakar (grilled snapper), and babi guling (Balinese spiced pork belly) will never let you down, especially if you pair it with the nasi goreng Jawa (Javanese fried rice). What’s even better is how the plant-based eaters are also spoiled for choice as Warisan offers tonnes of curries and stir-fries for all their vego and vegan visitors. There’s even a special lunch and a banquet menu for a cheaper or more organised dining alternative.
Of course, while you chow down, make sure to check out their eclectic array of beverages. Between their wines, beers (Bintangs included of course), and funky cocktails—which include a watermelon margarita, frozen slushy pandan colada and a few non-alcoholic options—you’ll find the perfect sip to complement, or enjoy over a smackdown on their retro arcade games.
