What’s Poppin

Ah, the dirty soda. Sweet, nostalgic and frequently seen in the hands of the cast on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, you can soon sip on all the fuss at Brisbane’s dedicated dirty soda shop. 

What’s Poppin began as pop-ups  that garnered a loyal following across the local market scene. With each brightly coloured drink, co-owners Madi and Will were building a vibrant community who couldn’t get enough, so a permanent location was the natural next step. 

“What’s Poppin started from our love of dirty sodas in the US and noticing there was nothing like it in Australia,” said Madi. “We wanted to bring something fun, customisable, and a little bit different to the drinks scene here—something that feels nostalgic but also very social and shareable.”

So where is What’s Poppin landing? California Lane in Fortitude Valley, which is a match made in heaven thanks to its retro style and pastel hues. 

“Fortitude Valley felt like the perfect fit for us—it’s vibrant, social, and full of people who are always looking for something new,” said Madi. “It’s also a really central location between Brisbane’s north and southside, which makes it easier for our community to come together in one place.”

On the menu you can expect a range of signature dirty sodas, made by taking sodas like Coca Cola, Sprite or Mountain Dew and mixing a curated balance of syrups, purees, fresh fruit and creamers. The new store will offer a revamped menu with a larger size, more energy-based options and limited-time specials. And if you know what you want, What’s Poppin also gives you the option to fully customise your own.
