Iconic Brisbane pub The Wickham Hotel has had a bit of a facelift of late and been transformed into a thing of beauty. Still staying true to the LGBTQIA+ community who hold her dear, the grand old watering hole’s $3.1 million makeover makes it one of the most stylish spots in Brisbane, with a revamped beer garden, refreshed bar spaces and a new kitchen.

What was known as the Corner Bar is now The Peacock Room, filled with vintage furniture, a curated collection of local artists’ work and a colourful new peacock-inspired bar, paying tribute to the Wickham’s peacock, Frankie. Upstairs, the Studio has been transformed into The Garland Room, a new club space that will host touring DJs and performers. Best of all, the beer garden now has a weather-proof stage and stylish bar, meaning you can enjoy outdoor acts no matter the weather.

Going hand in hand with the kitchen upgrade is a new menu, featuring stone-baked pizzas thanks to a new pizza oven; share plates like cauliflower hot bites, fried quail with truffle mash and fried halloumi; and classic mains like the chicken parmy, cheeseburger and chargrilled steaks. Desserts, of course, consist of a Golden Gay Time, fairy bread and butter pudding and lady finger banana and Nutella pizza—because what else would an LGBTQIA-friendly venue dish up? Best of all, there’s a heap of vegan and vegetarian options and a whole menu just for dogs, because this pub is dog-friendly too.
