  • A wooden sign reads Welcome To The Farm outside a farmhouse

If you’ve ever driven into Byron and wondered why everyone with a KeepCup and linen jumpsuit makes a pit stop just outside of town, here’s your answer. Set on 80 acres of rolling hinterland just outside Byron’s centre, The Farm Byron Bay is a working regenerative farm that makes for the perfect half-day escape.

While we do recommend slotting in a photogenic paddock stroll and a flat white while you're here (you will have seen their sunflower field all over your feed), the real draw here is their simple but powerful motto: Grow, Feed, Educate.

A visit to the farm is a one-on-one lesson in how to eat well, live slow, and maybe even make peace with the fact that you’ll never actually grow your own kale. Here's everything you need to know before your next visit.

What Is The Farm Byron Bay?

Founded by Tom and Emma Lane, the concept began as an experiment in how a farm could operate as both a sustainable food producer and a vibrant community hub. Today, it’s home to a collection of micro-businesses, all united by a shared goal of nurturing people, animals, and the planet.

The Farm practices regenerative agriculture, raising heritage-breed pigs, Highland cattle and free-ranging chooks, and growing spray-free produce that’s served and sold on-site—creating a true paddock-to-plate experience.

But their philosophy of sustainability extends beyond just scratching around in the dirt—The Farm is also behind a number of social and economic initiatives that give back to the local community through edudcation programs, youth support, and environmental projects. Visitors are encouraged to wander the property, meet the farmers, and learn first-hand how thoughtful food production can foster a healthier, more connected way of living.

Where to Eat & Drink at The Farm

There's no shortage of local producers in residence at The Farm, with on-site eating and drinking holes including the Three Blue Ducks, Baylato and the on-site Produce Store. Here's a sneak peak at what you'll be getting.

Three Blue Ducks

Three Blue Ducks at The Farm is the on-site restuarant, open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, and dinner on weekends. You might know them from their Sydney locations—their aim is to source as much produce as they can from The Farm itself, before venturing further afield—but almost everything comes from local and surrounding areas. All ingredients used are spray free and sustainably farmed, so you can enjoy your big brekkie guilt-free, while taking in the sweeping hinterland views from their outdoor patio. Dream date.

Menus are seasonal, but we can't pass up the Moreton Bay bugs with XO butter and lime—and some skin-on, duck's salt chippies with roasted Farm garlic aioli on the side. If you'd prefer a picnic, opt for one of their hampers: from $65, you'll recieve a take home Three Blue Ducks hessian bag, a variety of meats, cheeses, dips, bread, other local goodies, cutlery and plates.

Insider Intel:
  • Locals recommend sunrise coffee then breakfast at Ducks, before the tour crowds arrive.

Baylato

Baylato is The Farm's on-site milk bar, specialising in all things frozen—gelato, smoothies, mini pancakes (not frozen, we know) and much more. Located in The Dairy Bails, their ingredients come straight from The Farm, as well as a host of local suppliers. They open daily from 9am to 4pm, making them the perfect afternoon pit-stop.

Flavours range from crowd-favourite staples like natural vanilla and belgian chococate, to premium selections like their farm burnt honey (it's won multiple awards) and even stout beer—don't knock until you try it.

Insider intel:
  • All their packaging is compostable and environmentally friendly, so the only thing you'll have to worrying about ruining is your appetite.

The Produce Store is a hub for local suppliers across Byron Bay—providing the community with fresh, sustainably-produced goods and produce that are bottle and packaged up to take home. Deli items, farm fresh fruit and veg, and artisan goods and gifts are all up for grabs, as well as small goods from Three Blue Ducks’ own kitchen, Salumi, Byron Bay Cheese Co., Peace Love & Vegetables and many other local, artisanal producers.

  • We recommend stopping by on your way out—they are open from 7am to 3pm each day, so you won't miss out on a little retail therapy.

Experiences & Workshops for Families and Travellers

If you’re keen to swap screen time for sunshine (and maybe teach the kids that milk doesn’t come from a bottle), The Farm is packed with wholesome, hands-on experiences for local families and curious travellers alike.

Every day at 10am, you can join Animal Feeding by the Wishing Well, followed by the Into the Paddock Experience and Guided Farm Tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Led by one of The Farm’s resident farmers, you’ll wander through the veggie plots and flower fields, meet the pigs and pasture-raised chooks, and learn how regenerative farming works in real life.

For the little ones, the Farm Kids and Mini Farmers programs turn learning into play, introducing concepts like pollination, composting, and soil health through fun, hands-on workshops. Themes change with the seasons—from sustainability and recycling to nature craft, clothing, and “grow your own” garden sessions.

Throughout the year, The Farm also hosts seasonal events and gardening workshops, teaching visitors about the joys of slow living and connection to the environment. Add in a visit to Wormticklers Nursery or a bouquet from Poppy & Fern Flowers, and you'll have captured the full-blown experience.

Insider Intel:
  • If you are coming during school holidays, we recommend booking early for kids’ workshops and restaurant tables—they will start to pack out.

The Farm is located just 5 minutes from Byron town, at 11 Ewingsdale Rd, Ewingsdale. Their opening hours are between 7am and 4pm daily, so you'll have plenty of time to explore the grounds (morning person or not). Take a peek at their website for all the info you'll need to plan your day out.
