Calling All Parents and Overgrown Children: A Bluey Movie Is Coming, For Real Life!

It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since the Aussie-made series about a young dog with limitless energy and a vivid imagination took the world by storm. With its mix of heartwarming moments, infectious laughter, uniquely Aussie humour, and everybody’s favourite fun-loving ‘wish-he-was-my-dad’ father figure, it’s no wonder that Bluey was Disney+’s most-watched series globally last year. And, for those of you who can’t get enough of Bluey, Bingo, Mum, Dad, and all their friends, the Bluey movie will be released in Australian cinemas in 2027.

This is awesome news for the Australian film industry as well as Bluey fans. While Australia has long been home to Hollywood blockbusters like The Matrix and The Great Gatsby, Bluey is following in the footsteps of Happy Feet and flying the flag for Aussie-made animation. And, because the story is set in Brisbane with Australian voices and characters, it showcases our beautiful backyard, diverse culture, and enviable lifestyle to kids and parents all over the world.

What We Know About The Bluey Movie So Far

Queensland-based Ludo Studio is producing the Bluey movie in collaboration with BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios. It will be written and co-directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm and produced by Amber Naismith, who also produced Happy Feet and The LEGO® Movie—so you know we’re in for a real treat here.

The cast will include the voices you know and love, with Melanie Zanetti as Mum/Chilli and David McCormack (from the Aussie rock band, Custard) as fan-favourite Dad/Bandit. There have been no announcements yet for Bluey and Bingo, but TBH, we’re not holding our breath as they’ve famously kept the kids’ voices secret to protect their anonymity throughout the series. Good on ‘em, we reckon.

No cameos have been announced yet, but if previous episodes are anything to go by, we’re betting there’ll be some big names in the mix. Popular series cameos have included Rose Byrne, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Natalie Portman, Hamish Blake, Eva Mendez and Adam Hill—so you can expect a mix of Aussie faves as well as huge Hollywood stars. Stay tuned. We’ll keep you posted.

The Bluey movie will be released in Australian cinemas on August 5, 2027. You have plenty of time to smash all episodes on Disney+ several times before then.
