best cafes on the gold coast

If you’re the kinda Gold Coast foodie that can’t get enough of all of the OTT cafe openings this year, get ready for another healthy dose of newbies.

To be honest, there have been so many new openings in 2017, we’re starting to question whether cafes and restaurants will soon outnumber homes. And we are not complaining one bit. With so many coffee choices, snack attacks and gourmet brekkies filling our tums, we are almost certain that our calendars are full for the next month or two just trying to visit them all.

So, get ready to pencil a few more in, because these cafes have recently opened on the Gold Coast and we think you should totally hunt them down.

SIX Things

Tweed Heads

If you’ve recently wandered down Old Burleigh Arcade after a chill sesh at Burleigh Hill, you’ll know the cute little shop, SIX Things, has closed. But never fear our kooky lovers, a few months back they moved to an even groovier location in Tweed Heads and added coffee to the mix! Cheeky badges, cushion covers and birthday cards you’ll want to gift to everyone except your Grandma, SIX Things cafe welcomes new assortments of giftables such as clothing, extra additions to their stationary and ceramic collections, as well as (drum roll please) the introduction of an espresso bar with treats. Open Wednesday to Sunday, chat with your BFF in hidden nooks tucked away throughout the store with a Supreme Coffee Roasters brew in one hand and a Nutella toastie in the other—then try not to buy everything in sight. But SIX Things is one of those treat yo’ self kind of places, so we won’t blame you if you do.

Loki Cafe

South Tweed Heads

While the word vegan often scares meat eaters away at high speeds, Loki Cafe has already won over the carnivores of the Gold Coast. Hearty vegan burgers are unanimously a crowd favourite, with double patties, cheese, mayo, a bit of green stuff and ketchup; it’s easy to mistake a Vhopper for a full-blown HJ Whopper. And don’t get us started on their crazy good plant-based slices and decorated chia puddings.  You’ll be hard pressed finding vegan and vego eats with as much oomph and visual illusion as the Loki crew. Find them in the new dining precinct at Tweed Heads Shopping Centre; we suggest bringing your appetite to this one.

Cru Design Lounge

Varsity Lakes

Love strolling around home wares stores but find that, like any hard work, an insatiable appetite quickly approaches? Well, lucky for you, Varsity Lakes has welcomed a new cafe with a twist. Where inspo meets good food and coffee, Cru Design Lounge provides a retail platform for custom and hand-selected pieces like one-of-a-kind furniture and soft furnishings, as well as design and colour advice, so your burning questions about pimping out your pad can be answered in a jif. Enjoy a jam packed all day menu featuring chilli-topped salmon and potato waffles, B&E rolls with delish relish, indulgent slices, an assortment of salads and, of course, cawfee.

The Local

Dropping this July, The Local has been a hit from day one. These chillers source locally-farmed produce and have a big focus on the connectedness of the Gold Coast community. Insta-worthy breakfasts, brunches and lunch treats like Magic Mushrooms, and the best darn smashed avo creation we’ve seen, are met with a selection of beers by locals Balter and Stone & Wood. With long time coffee expert Serge Siboni backing the boys, you just know your caffeinated beverage is gonna be a good one. Soon enough you’ll be hearing laidback live tunes while you sip a frothy brewskie or brew (you choose) and lap up the super cool vibes of Burls.

Paper Cup Coffee

You loved Paper Cup Coffee in Labrador and now they’ve opened shop in Southport too. Centrally located on Ferry Road, you can expect the same gourmet eats, devilish sweets (yes, they have cruffins), fresh juices and specialty coffee roasts. These guys take a well-rounded approach to their brews, stocking out-of-the-box flavours such as Proud Mary’s buttery, caramel-infused crème brulee and Blackboard Coffee’s distinct local blend. Snatch up a bouquet of blooms while you’re here or an acai bowl to get the heart pumping. Paper Cup Coffee is so new you can still smell the fresh paint, so get yourself down and give them a big warm welcome.

Still haven’t worked your way through the Coast’s ultimate breakfast bucket list? Here it is again to refresh your memory.
