Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) is locked to descend upon Carriageworks again this May, serving up its signature style mayhem for five glorious days. Today, the full runway schedule was revealed, with some 45 designer runways taking place across five jam-packed days.
Running from Monday 15 May through to Friday 19 May, designers on the bill this year include much-loved Australian fashion labels like Aje, Anna Quan, Blanca, St. Agni, and BEC + BRIDGE.
Opening AAFW on Monday will be ALÉMAIS, the planet-friendly brand behind everyone's most wishlisted summer dresses and prints. Other notable designers include Maggie Marilyn and Wynn Hamlyn from New Zealand; gender-neutral leisurewear label Haulier's AAFW debut, and favourites from fashion week last year, Nicol & Ford and Alix Higgins.
This year, 11 First Nations fashion designers will present at AAFW, including Ngali, Gali Swimwear, Gammin Threads, Ihraa Swim, Joseph & James, Kamara, Lazy Girl Lingerie, Miimi and Jiinda, and more.
“The 2023 schedule features the next generation of Australian designers defining the future of Australian fashion alongside some of the industry’s biggest names and celebrates the ingenuity and unmatched creative talent of our country,” said Natalie Xenita, vice president and managing director of IMG Fashion Events and Properties, Asia-Pacific.
The program of ticketed consumer events is also now live, including a whole host of designer shows and panel discussions to fill up your fashion cup. Dubbed "AAFW: The Experience", this year, you'll be able to get tickets to multi-designer shows like the now-iconic Indigenous Fashion Projects Runway and the always-inspiring Innovators showcase. Designer shows you can book include mega talent like Erik Yvonne, Gary Bigeni, and the artistic and explosive Iordanes Spyridon Gogos.
Keen to get some insider intel from leaders in fashion business? AAFW panel discussions like "I Love The Nightlife: Club Culture And Fashion", "Identity And Agency: Gender Diversity And The Fashion Industry", and "On Trend: Key Directions In Australian Fashion" with Urban List fashion editor Sammy Preston, are bound to get everyone talking.
