A Ridiculously Festive Christmas Festival Has Taken Over Melbourne
Melbourne loves to make a big deal of things—think laneways and the Metro rail project—and fortunately for us, Christmas falls into that category of ‘things’. Kicking off in December is the City of Melbourne’s Christmas Festival—a major must-do for silly season lovers.
First up is the pièce de résistance, Christmas Square at Fed Square, which’ll be landmarked by the 17.5m Christmas tree and sprawling festive wonderland with 100% wind-powered lights spreading the Chrissy cheer.
And if you thought that’s already a lot of Christmas, Marvel Stadium is playing its part, with Stadium Square Gate 2/3 transforming into the North Pole until 23 December, fitted out with Santa photography and footy team-themed trees, as well as a 9m Pixar-themed tree that kids will adore.
Plus, the stunning Capitol Theatre is playing host to a stack of Christmas flicks like Arthur Christmas on Saturday 20 December and Elf on Sunday 21 December, and it'll be home to the captivating bubble show.
The City of Melbourne Christmas Festival is on until Thursday 25 December. And best of all, with the exception of a handful of events, most of the Christmas Festival is free.
