There’s a certain hawker-style food market that hits Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr each year, you know, the one that’s heavy-handed with the alliteration. Well, the good news is this spiffy city is getting a second hawker-style market of a similar ilk—the Downtown Dumpling Market.
Doing exactly what it says on the label, the sprawling market will hero the dumpling in more than a few forms, and from plenty of your favourite dumpling purveyors. Meanwhile, on support duties, you’ll find noodles, bao and skewers en masse.
Punters can expect a handful of watering holes popping up around the market with a dedicated sake bar taking centre stage for the duration of the festival.
The line-up is yet to be revealed, though it promises more than a few of Melbourne’s dumpling elite serving up the good stuff. Several interstate heavyweights are also slated for the bill, and given the event is founded by Adelaide Fringe arts and entertainment destination, Gluttony, as well as SA’s Lucky Dumpling Market, we’ve got one or two inklings as to where those guests will be coming from.
You’ve got a little under two months until Downtown Dumpling Market descends on Melbourne, with the two-week program running from Thursday 9 November until Sunday 26 November. Keep up to date with the latest announcements here.
