It’s not every day you find a neighbour who’ll let you open a bar on their roof, but Embla Wine Bar hit the jackpot. Melbourne’s newest rooftop cinema and bar is opening this weekend on the roof of the Melbourne Theosophical Society thanks to the efforts of Embla owners Christian McCabe and Dave Verheul. The pop up will be a fitting farewell to the historical building before it starts a new life as a boutique hotel.
The duo has equipped Embla rooftop with everything you’ll need for the ideal summer night. We’re talking sun lounges, yellow striped vintage deck chairs, picnic tables, bright painted walls with murals featuring nature, and we’ve saved the best for last—a giant five metre screen for the ultimate rooftop cinema experience. “It’s a fun bottle of wine, a good movie and some Embla snacks, on a Melbourne rooftop—the ideal recipe for summer,” says McCabe. We couldn’t put it better ourselves.
The team have cooked up some Mediterranean-style movie snacks which are designed for sharing. There will be crab served on fennel and lemon toast, and raw kingfish served with pumpkin seed miso, cucumber and cumquat. To match the food, there will be themed movie weeks including food and wine week, 80s week, Nicholas Cage week, loving week, and more yet to be revealed.

Max out your summer with this bottomless brunch (aka Beerunch) at CBCo Brewery.
