To celebrate Moomba Festival and bring people back into the CBD, the City of Melbourne is offering up free parking in and around the city between midday Friday 5 March 2021 to 11.59pm Monday 8 March 2021.
"There will be a carnival atmosphere in the city and offering free parking is another way to reduce the cost of coming into the city to enjoy all the COVID-safe activities we have on offer as part of Moomba,” Lord Mayor Sally Capp said.
There are a few things you need to know before heading in to snap up a free park, like green signs by parking bays signalling if the spot is free; drivers will also still need to take the time limit on the signs into consideration.
In total, there are 11,408 fee parking bays in the municipality of The City of Melbourne, and with fees usually sitting at $7 an hour, visitors to the city are set to snap up a bargain when parking regardless of if they’re scoping out everything happening at Moomba or otherwise.
As well as parking time limits, those heading in should keep an eye on disabled parking restrictions, clearways, no standing zones and residential permit restrictions so that everyone gets a shot at that usually-elusive city parking spot. Find out the finer details here.
