Buying tickets to the orchestra can be a pricey night out, but every summer in Melbourne the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) holds a series of free outdoor concerts at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, so you can get your classical fix without the classical fees. Now in its 90th year, these well-established concerts are a must for any Melburnian.
The concerts are part of the Live at the Bowl season running until 23 April. What better way to spend your summer than enjoying some live music under the stars? Chill out on the lawn and let the sounds of the MSO wash over you as the sun sets behind the CBD. Bring a picnic and some booze, but keep it classy people, this is no rock concert.
They’ve got two concerts left for the series on Saturday 6 February and Wednesday 10 February. Entry is free, but you’ll need to book ahead—don’t leave it to the last minute, these tickets sold out in 20 minutes last time. Reservations are restricted to private tables for two or four, or one private six-seater lawn deck per booking. Bookings are available through Ticketek from 12pm Friday 15 January.
While you wait, check out the program of free events coming up at Fed Square for the summer.
