Hut, Hut, Hut, Touchdown! The NFL Is Coming To Melbourne

By

We’re calling it a touchdown. Further cementing Melbourne as Australia’s sporting capital, next year we’re going to be able to catch live NFL games.

Yep, American football—the National Football League—a la Travis Kelce is coming to us live and uncut, Premier Jacinta Allen has just announced.

“Only Victoria can host an international grand slam, only Victoria can experience the Formula 1 Grand Prix, only Victoria can break records with the Boxing Day Test—and Victoria is now the only city in Australia to host the NFL,” she says.

Teams are set to clash at the MGC, which, in case you didn’t know is the world’s 11th largest stadium, welcoming fans from around the globe. We’ll even get our very own host team, the Los Angeles Rams, and we’re pretty keen to get our mitts on some merch.

American Football is the USA’s most popular sport and matches from the ‘G will be beamed live into lounge rooms everywhere with an average of almost 20 million Americans tuning into each NFL game, plus millions more worldwide.

Australia is a significant global market for the NFL, with a growing fan base of 6.6 million supporters. Thousands of these fans are expected to pack live sites across Melbourne for Super Bowl LIX matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs—and if you want to see where to watch, head over here.
