Amatrice Rooftop
THE VERDICT
Sitting pretty atop a Cremorne tenth floor is none other than Amatrice, a swish Italian joint that’s changing the rooftop bar game.
We actually mean that: not only are they slinging epic cocktails, but they’re also dishing up the world’s only certified egg pasta (so, basically the champagne of pastas), direct from a cute little village in Italy called Campofilone. This is basically a temple for pasta worshippers, and we’re obsessed with it.
What better way to kick off a good time than with a cocktail? Take the Sgroppino, for instance: a deliciously fruity and zingy refresher made with watermelon strawberry rose gelato, strawberry vodka, prosecco, and rosé. Chef’s kiss.
When it comes to the food, things just keep getting better and better. Come hungry for some of the best pasta you’ll ever have, and kick things off with a serving (or five) of Zia’s Calabrian Square. It’s a unique little lasagne bite that will disappear in a matter of seconds (because it’s small, sure, but it’s also that good).
Amatrice said so themselves: their menu celebrates all things pasta, and it consists of classic Campofilone egg pasta dishes all made with traditional sauces alla Romana. For a good mix of creamy, delicious flavours, go for the Mezze Maniche alla'Carbonara made with egg yolk, guanciale and pecorino, along with the Maccheroncini di Campofilone al Ragu for good measure.
This is not the place to skimp on dessert, either. Opt for the classic Tiramisu, or a delicious little Bombolini (an Italian filled donut) or the zesty Blood Orange Cake with sparkling tutti frutti: regardless, there’s a little something for every sweet tooth.
With sweeping views of the city skyline all the way from the CBD out to the Dandenong Ranges, Amatrice is offering up the best Italy has to offer, with a fresh new take on the meaning of ‘dining with a view’.
Oh yeah, and if you haven't peeped it yet, they also have a ground-floor cafe.
