The Verdict

The latest addition to the Brighton food scene needs very little introduction. George Calombaris’ Hellenic Republic has been keeping the masses fed in Brunswick East, Kew and Williamstown for many years, and now the restaurant has set up shop on the well-to-do Church Street strip in Brighton.

The menu at Hellenic Republic Brighton is similar to what you’ll find at their Kew restaurant. The Hellenic Health option which is available for weekday lunch only will set you up with 5 dishes—4 plant based, and 1 protein which is inspired by the Hellenic diet, to eat well and live well.

If you’re feeling hungry—as if you’re not—you’d be mad not to choose the Masa Menu on arrival, in which you’ll be fed an array of dishes ranging from savoury to sweet. You’ll finish on the salted caramel rice pudding which is an absolutely do not miss Melbourne dessert.

All your Greek favourites are here too, from spanakopita, saganaki with peppered figs, cauliflower cooked on the spit, as well as whole shoulders of lamb that will leave you rolling out the door.

Wash it all down with an Ouzo, or a $10 glass of Moët (yes, you read that right) and finish the night off right.

Hellenic Republic Brighton also features a takeaway menu, check it out here.
