The Verdict

Sweet nectar of the gods, why do you tempt us so? Like we didn’t have enough trouble running the delicious snack gauntlet on our way home from work, now they’re opening a PAFU at Southern Cross Station.

If you haven’t discovered these guys yet, your PT is about to weep sugary tears. They’re the latest dessert creation from the team behind Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts: palm-sized puff pastry pockets, stuffed with warm custard and apple. That’s it. So why do they taste so effing good and look we’re even eating one as we type this we’re animals please make us stop...

PAFU are pretty much modern-day French apple turnovers (Chaussons aux Pommes if you wanna get fancy). The store sells nothing but PAFU, because it doesn’t need to sell anything else. You’ll spot it as you head for the train—a pop of Millenial pink and the wafting smell of baked apple pies. TA-SQUARE handled the fit-out at QV, and they’re back again for more here—the store is cute but simple, and the PAFU are definitely centre stage.

You probably don’t need much of a prod to get down to SoCro and start stuffing your face, but we’re gonna give you one anyway. PAFU are slinging FREE puff pastries this week to celebrate the new store launch. They’ll be giving away one PAFU to the first 100 customers from 5pm on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 June.

If you miss out, don’t sweat it. PAFU will be open 7-days a week. There’s nowhere to hide people...Excuse us while we go weep for all the abs we’ll never have.
