Hurrah—it’s time to dust off your weekend best and take on another brilliant weekend in this city of ours! Although the temptation to stay in bed is strong thanks to the winter chills, get ready to get out there ‘cause there’s so much out there to discover this weekend!

From a Mexican fiesta all weekend long, a jaw-dropping circus, a beer day and even a chocolate celebration, your weekend is set to be full to the brim with excitement, happiness and a whole lot of dancing. What are you waiting for? It’s time to get planning for all these things to do this weekend in our favourite city.

Mexican Café’s 34th Birthday Fiesta | 3 July—9 July

Taco bout a party! The Mexican Café is celebrating the right way with a weeklong fiesta to celebrate a whopping 34 years filled with specials, themed days and a burrito-eating contest! Monday kicks off with $10 margaritas all day and margarita demonstrations throughout the evening! Taco Tuesday sees $3 tacos from the evening, celebrate Frida Kahlo’s birthday on Thursday with rad costumes, and take a trip down memory lane with their first ever menu at 80’s prices on Saturday! It’s not over yet, though—Sunday is the burrito-eating contest where you have to devour as many burritos as you humanly can in 5 minutes. Get ready for a Mex-cellent week to kick off July!

Hudson & Halls Live!

Silo Theatre’s smash hit comedy returns to Auckland as part of a national tour to celebrate the company’s 20th Anniversary. Back after winning a bevvy of Wellington Theatre Awards, it’s time for you to take a seat in a 1980’s TV studio for a mid-winter Christmas special and for a glimpse into the epic story of two of New Zealand’s most iconic TV personalities Peter Hudson and David Halls. Expect side-splitting laughs, rum-fuelled showdowns and some very questionable cooking!

2017 World Press Photo Exhibition

The world’s greatest photo exhibition hits Auckland! This traveling exhibition, incredibly unique in its kind, is the result of a worldwide annual contest on press photography. No doubt you’ll have seen some of the iconic photos sprawled across your Facebook newsfeed like Johnathan Bachman’s “Taking a Stand in Baton Rogue” and Usain Bolt in Kai Oliver Pfaffenbach’s “Rio’s Golden Smile”—now you can see them and more up close and personal! Plus, proceeds from the entry fees will also be donated to charity!

Cirque Grande

It’s a circus like you’ve never seen it! On it’s very first tour of New Zealand, this brand new show is ready to make you laugh, gasp, scream and clap profusely as you watch the talented artists swing, dance, ride and so much more. Their award-winning bicycle act sees 12 (!) girls on a single bike performing tricks that combine aerobics, gymnastics, riding and dance. The phenomenal African acrobats will also take your breath away with their gravity-defying performances.

Auckland’s Mid Winter Ugly Sweater Party

Winter is well amongst us, so it’s time to don your ugliest sweater and dance off the winter blues! Te Ara Rama Matariki Light Trail

The 5th Annual Te Ara Rama Matariki Light Trail transforms Maybury Reserve into a magical illuminated landscape for a weeklong Matariki celebration. Rug up and get ready to take a magical journey long a flax-lined pathway among hundreds and thousands of fairy lights! Local performers will keep you well entertained throughout the night from 7pm.

North Rugby Fan Zone

Even if you’re over the shore, there’s no stopping you from one of the biggest rugby games this year! Watch the action live on the big screen when the All Blacks takes the British and Irish Lions in this gripping third and final Test match of the DHL Lions Series 2017. There will be free entertainment, family-friendly activities including face painting and inflatables as well as food and drink to keep you going!

Queen’s Wharf Fan Trail

This is the buzzing hub for the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017 and it’s bringing all of the action along for the third and final Test match! An easy five minute walk from the ferry, make a day of it in Devonport at these stellar markets!
