Cirque du Soleil meets Alice in Wonderland, a thirteen metre tall light installation, a takatāpui rebirth of the Village People, and more. The days might still be chilly, but the calendar only continues to heat up. And so you can get straight down to living the good life, I've whipped up an Urban List-approved edit of events and activities that'll keep you from hibernating.

What's On In Auckland In December 2026

Dizzie Rascal

Sometimes you’re just craving a solid hit of dirty, dirty bass, so it’d be bonkers not to scoop up tickets to Dizzie Rascal. Bringing his We Want Bass tour to Tāmaki Makaurau in the thick of Silly Season, it’s sure to be a relief from Christmas dinners and mandatory work lunches, a chance to just throw your hands up in the air and celebrate being free from your inbox, if only for one night.

The Details

When: 8 December 2026
Where: Shed 10, Queens Wharf

On Purpose at Q Theatre

Theatre Review described On Purpose's August run at Basement Theatre as "as enjoyable as any theatre work I've experience in my lifetime" which is pretty high praise. Now, the show is returning to Q Theatre for a five night run of shows from 1-5 December. Written, produced and performed by Aidan O'Malley, Lachie Oliver-Kerby, and Oscar Fitzgerald who together make up Time Shivers Productions, the show follows three men who are stuck in purgatory trying to write the perfect sketch show. As you might imagine, there's a strong meta line running through the production, tempered by myriad laughs, impeccable timing and genuinely intelligent writing. Come along now so you can say "I was there" when they inevitably make it to the big time.

The Details

When: 1-5 December
Where: Q Theatre, 305 Queen Street
Cost: From $20

Let’s be real: a 17-hour long-haul flight in Economy has never exactly screamed beauty sleep. Until now. From late December 2026, Air New Zealand is giving Economy passengers flying between Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and New York City the chance to book a four-hour lie-flat sleep session in its world-first Economy Skynest™ pods.

Complete with fresh linen, a blanket, pillow and a Nestcessities amenity kit—including an eye mask and earplugs—this is your chance to properly stretch out and catch some shut-eye before touching down in the city that never sleeps. Each flight features six individual pods, with bookable four-hour sessions thoughtfully timed around meal service, meaning you won't have to choose between a decent feed and a decent nap.
