Aucklanders, March is officially upon us! Celebrations of leprechauns and the consumption of excessive amounts of Easter eggs awaits our near future. As per, we have a lot to look forward to, and a whole lot to plan. But this week, we’re opting for celebrating every day as it comes, making the most of allll the epic things Auckland has lined up.
From crazy-wonderful art classes to colourful carnivals, to all-you-can-eat oysters… you have a lot to be excited about! Here are five fabulous things to do this week.
SKYCITY Breakers vs Melbourne United
Let’s be honest, you can’t call yourself an Aucklander until you’ve been to a SKYCITY Breakers game. The high-energy event has it all: pumping music, awesome entertainment, celebrity spotting and—of course—fast-paced basketball. Experience the epic action for yourself tonight as New Zealand’s favourite basketball team go head-to-head against Melbourne United. As part of the Australian NBL, this is our only home game in the semi-finals series (FYI it’s a best of three). Never a dull moment, tonight’s event will showcase food trucks outside (and classic hot dogs inside!), dance teams and light shows. Don’t get FOMO—nab your tickets here.
Alliance Francaise French Film Festival
The Rialto Cinema is hosting an epic film festival, showcasing the best of French films. Inviting audiences to experience a diverse programme of over 35 feature films, the festival aims to enlighten its audiences, to celebrate “one language and a world of emotions”. Be sure to check out the programme and get your hands on tickets today!
Bluff Oysters At The Harbourside Ocean Bar & Grill
The annual all-you-can-eat Bluff oyster lunch is back and we could not be more excited. Harbourside Ocean Bar and Grill is inviting Aucklanders to do their Tuesday the right way this week! Enjoy a flute of G.H Mumm Champagne on arrival and an exclusive menu, that we have deemed delightful. Expect the likes of freshly shucked Bluff oysters, served natural, battered, Kilpatrick & panko crumbed. YUM.
Paint, Drink, Socialise
Kickstart that resolution to step outta your comfort zone this Wednesday! Head to Birkenhead for Auckland’s premiere art class. This unconventional class invites anyone and everyone—no experience is necessary. Making it even more awesome, the event includes a complimentary beverage, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available (but let’s be real, we want the alcohol… it’s Wednesday for crying out loud). Socialise, learn basic how-to-paint skills and choose yourself a draaank from the ColourBar. Seat numbers are limited so get yourself booked in ASAP.
The Piano: The Ballet
As part of the Auckland Art Festival, The Piano: The Ballet, is one event that can’t be missed! The show, drawing on the rich inspiration of the film, The Piano, is being performed by the Royal New Zealand Ballet. The new full-length dance work by Jiří Bubeníček tells the story of Ada McGrath and her daughter Flora, taking the audience on a journey that explores New Zealand’s imagined past. The stunning performance is unmissable, get yourself tickets, pronto!
