Things To Do In Auckland This October

October marks the beginning of warmer days and longer nights which to us, means a whole lot more fun. This month you can eat around the world, do good, and indulge in some of New Zealand’s best chocolate. Between all of the feasts and drinking, you even have the chance to run a marathon—whether you’re ready or not—and get your summer bod happening at New Zealand’s biggest fitness expo. Whatever your jam, October has something for everyone. 

Auckland Heritage Festival | Festival Until 9 October

The theme for this year's Auckland Heritage Festival is Ngā iwi o Tāmaki Makaurau—celebrating the heritage of our people. This will include all sorts of people from different cultures and communities sharing their heritage stories that have made Auckland the diverse city it is today. From tours around Eden Park, the Bharatiya Mandir Hindu temple and Māori portraits by Gottfried Lindauer, it's a must.

Street Kai on Takutai | 4 October

Need a feed to perk up your Thursday? Head down to Takutai Square and join the Aucklnad Food Truck Collective for a day of street eats at Street Kai on Takutai! Skip the soggy salad for lunch and go down for a lunch break of epic proportions or make a beeline after work. You’ll find scrumptious eats from some of Auckland’s best street food vendors, including Double Dutch Fries, Peach’s Hot Chicken, Judge Bao, Grownup Donuts and more. Local Britomart eateries like Miann, Orleans and Ebisu will also be joining in on the fun, so you know you’ll be well looked after.

Food Truck Friday with Deep Creek | 5 October

There’s not much more that can make Fridays as awesome as they already are… unless you add a whole lot of Auckland’s best food trucks in the mix! After a sell-out first season, Deep Creek Brewing Co are opening up their doors again for Food Truck Friday, bringing some of Auckland’s finest food trucks, live music and of course, ice cold Deep Creek brews. They’re bringing you some of the best street food vendors around, from plant-based burger goodness by Wise Boys Burgers, freshly fried chips from Double Dutch Fries, hot and delicious chicken from Peach’s Hot Chicken and so much more. 

The Spring Blossom Rooftop Pop-up | 5 October

It’s the final weekend of this beautiful pop up at The Glass Goose. Thought you couldn’t be more excited about leaving winter? This is the cherry on top. The Spring Blossom Rooftop pop-up is bringing all things floral and delicious every Friday of the month. Sip on an iconic Cereal Killa freakshake, treat yourself to cookies, doughnuts, candy floss and cake, and you have to try the candy floss wine spritzer and frosé slushies!

Art Week | 6-14 October

It's that time of year again folks. Prepare yourselves for a week of creativity and culture as Art Week is back and judging by the line-up, this year will be the best one yet. Auckland will be transformed into an artsy paradise with different exhibitions, installations and events happening all throughout the week, you won't struggle when it comes to finding things to do. It's a long line-up so you might need some help on deciding which ones to get amongst. Here's a list on what not to miss at this year's Art Week.

The Chocolate and Coffee Show | 6 October

Some of our fave things are coming together for a whole show of their own, and we can’t believe it’s finally here! The Chocolate and Coffee Show is back and celebrating its fifth birthday of bringing the best of chocolate and coffee to Aucklanders. Bringing New Zealand’s finest coffee makers, chocolatiers and culinary masters, you’ll be on cloud nine at The Cloud. More than 80 stalls will be bringing their best, along with celebrity chefs, workshops and so much more. If heaven was a place on earth, this is what it would look like. 

Whittaker’s Buko Degustation | 6 October

Buko returns for yet another jaw-dropping degustation event, after sell-out pop-up events across Melbourne, Fiji and Auckland. In celebration of one of the best weeks of the year—New Zealand Chocolate Week—Buko is bringing you a scrumptious four-course menu using Whittaker’s Chocolate and Fresh As freeze-dried fruit to bring you Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory on a whole new level. Walk (or roll) out stuffed with delicious desserts, and even an exclusive gift pack filled with even more goodies. 

Oktober Family Fest | 7 October

Who said Oktoberfest was only for the raucous and rowdy adults?! The Backyard Bar is changing the game and bringing the Oktober Family Fest to town! You’ll get your usual taste of Munich’s Oktoberfest with their beer tent, German beer taps, Steins, and German snacks, but now you can make it a family day out. With soft serves, candy floss, face painting, food stalls, and more, we’re not sure who’s going to come out having the most fun!

Korean Street Food Festival | 7 October

The Glenfield Sunday Night Markets is transforming into the bustling streets of Korea, as the Korean Consulate brings Auckland’s Korean Street Food Festival to town! Get your mouth around some spicy rice cakes, tender bulgogi, potato sticks and charcoal black corn dogs. Korean burger legends Tiger Burger will be bringing some of their latest and greatest kimchi creations, and safe to say we are so ready. Not only will you be stuffing yourself with Korean delights, you can listen to some K-Pop, watch Korean TV shows and K-Dramas, for a whole dose of Korean culture and food.

Oyster & Wine Festival Matakana | 7 October

Are you ready to shuck it? Matakana is the place to be as the Oyster & Wine Festival kicks off. Local oyster farmers from the Mahurangi Harbour will be shucking and serving their fresh, delicious oysters au naturel, paired with local wines for a mouth-watering experience. If you love seafood but don’t like oysters, not to worry—there will be so much more seafood to satisfy your tastebuds! With live music, cooking demonstrations and even a shucking competition, this is the saltiest fun you’ll have all year. 

SKYCITY Dining for a Difference | 13 October

Join Chef Peter Gordon at the SKYCITY Convention Center, for a unique night of fine dining, all for a good cause at SKYCITY Dining for a Difference. This exclusive event will have thirteen world-renowned chefs serving up a delicious four-course menu with matching wines for a group of 3,000 lucky New Zealanders, to make a difference to the six Kiwis diagnosed every day with a blood cancer or related condition. Raising funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, there is an exclusive auction held on the evening with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including the opporgunity to have Peter cooking a special dinner at your home! 

Feast Matakana 2018 | 14 October

Learn, taste, and experience all the delicious food and drink Matakana is famous for at Feast Matakana! Showing off the local producers and growers working with local eateries, this is a match made in heaven of delicious local produce turned into magical feasts. From a Brick Bay Feast dinner, to intimate chefs series, and so much more, you have lots to look forward to in Matakana! Roadtrip, anyone?

Eat. Drink. Pink. | 14 October

Food, fashion and cocktails are coming together to celebrate Gordon’s new Pink Gin at Eat. Drink. Pink. Get the squad together and kick the day off with a scrumptious Pink Gin cocktail or mocktail and canapes on arrival. Sit back and enjoy the latest season collections from lots of designers, while you enjoy a delish lunch. What’s more, it’s all for a great cause, fundraising for Paddle for Hope, funding rehabilitation after cancer diagnosis. Grab a few raffle tickets and be in to win some amazing prizes from the designers of the day, and support an amazing, worthy cause.

Eskimo Dance |16 October 

Eskimo Dance was set up by UK rapper Wiley, otherwise known as the Godfather of Grime in 2002. This underground rave born within London epitomizes the grime genre and is making its way to New Zealand for the first time. The acts at this event include Wiley, Lethal Bizzle, Big Shaq, Devlin, P Money, BBC Radio 1’s DJ Target and Rude Kid. All these household names are set to shake up the Southern Hemisphere with a live experience that goes against the rules. Calling it a show would be an understatement, we’re expecting a grimy riot and it is not to be missed. 

VetCare’s Dog & Grog | 20 October

Your furry best friend goes anywhere you do, so why not the pub too? Enjoy a pint with your canine bestie by your side at Pocket Bar & Kitchen, bringing dogs big and small together for a little dog party at VetCare’s Dog & Grog! What’s more, the VetCare team will be there to help you out with any pet-related questions and will even be giving out delish treats and spot prizes! No dog? No worries—head to the bar for a pint anyway and get ready to be in pup heaven.

Diwali Festival 2018 | 20-21 October

Otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali Festival is back this year and is set to be better than ever. The weekend of the 20th and the 21st of October will be dedicated to Indian culture from spectacular performances, delicious Indian street food and learning about the importance and integrity behind the henna and traditional Indian clothing. Tens of thousands of Aucklanders come together every year for this cultural and contemporary event and it is not to be missed.

Brunch at French Bay | 21 October

There’s not much that can beat a beautiful brunch by the bay. Bringing back one of the last brunches of the season, this Brunch at French Bay is set to be a busy one! Don’t miss out on the awesome food truck line up. Devour goodies from Grownup Donuts, get a fresh wood-fired pizza from Stumpy’s Woodfired Pizza, get some Sunday health in you with Juice It, and so much more! Grab a bite, sip on a coffee and find a pozzy overlooking the ocean at the stunning French Bay Yacht Club for a perfect Sunday morning.

Mission Bay Art & Craft Market | 22 October

One of Auckland’s largest art and craft markets is back at Mission Bay! This Labour Day, they’re filling up Selwyn Reserve with more than 180 stalls, with something for everyone. Find designer fashion, kid’s clothes, a huge selection of jewellery, doggie accessories and sncaks and so much more! Of course, there will be endless food trucks and fair food to keep everyone’s hunger at bay. How often can you shop ‘til you drop, enjoy live music AND have a picnic on the beach? 

Beer & Bacon Festival | 27 October

New Zealand’s Beer & Bacon Festival is coming in hot for its second year, bringing all of the beer, bacon, more beer, and more bacon you can handle. If you thought those alone weren’t enough, you can enjoy some bacon-infused brews to really turn it up a notch. Are you the biggest bacon lover around? Think you can chow down a plate full of bacon faster than anyone else? Wellington Wine Country Celebration | 27 October
