We Tried A Roaming Retreat And This Is What Happened

Ever accidentally doomscrolled your way to an ad for an idyllic retreat? It’s a refreshing concept—leaving a bloated inbox, endless responsibilities and office politics behind in favor of fleeing to a myriad of nice things that’ll restore your weary soul—that is, until you realise there’s no way you can shoehorn three spare days into your schedule.

Well, my burned out friend, Myland and Co.’s Roaming Retreat was made for you.

Never miss a new opening or upcoming event in Aotearoa again—get us in your inbox here.

Inspired by the spirit of the Pacific, The Roaming Retreat has been meticulously designed to feel like a holiday. And that isn’t just a catchy tagline. Founder, Jacs Bennett, has nailed the holiday vibe with the most thoughtful of details, curated especially for women. It’s in the ample car snacks for treats en route, the towels that materialise to wipe the sand off your feet post-beach walk, and a lunch setting that brought our Pinterest nature picnic daydream to life, to name a few.

You’ll gather at The Park Hyatt for an orientation before being transported to Muriwai Beach for nature bathing and a scenic walk. Next, you’ll be guided through a slow-flow yoga session at the stunning Kula Muriwai and then feast on a gorgeous plant-based meal (with dietaries well-catered too). Dabble in Qi Gong then settle into a surprising restorative journey that will see you back to the city, primed for a blissful massage followed by hydrotherapy and tea.

The name 'Myland' sprung from the concept of 'my island,' a haven curated to meet each holidayer's needs. The 'Co.' is short for both 'collaborative' and 'community,' both which are evident in the experts like Ange Gervan, Rebecca Le Harle, Claire Dobry and others who lead elements of Myland & Co.'s offerings, and the featuring of women-made products like Becca Project skincare created by Carlie Hogan.

We went into the retreat anticipating it would be good but it exceeded our (very) high expectations. We’ve never been able to fully articulate the near-mystical energy that creates a holiday vibe, let alone imagine it could be constructed in just one day. But it can, and you can experience it for a smooth $599 per person. Granted, it isn’t cheap on the usual things to do scale but in the realm of retreats, it’s quite the steal.

So when you next feel the need for a mental health day, consider booking yourself a cheeky roaming retreat (or one of their shorter options), swapping a day on the couch in front of Netflix for sand between your toes, a restorative forest walk, and an utterly blissful pampering that’s long overdue.
