Sudima Auckland City

A Sudima hotel room suite, one of the best hotels in Auckland.Image credit: Sudima Auckland City / Supplied

There are so many reasons to love Sudima Auckland City, one of the city's newest hotels and located just a stone's throw from some of the city's best shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Most notably, Sudima is the first hotel group in the world to introduce the Hidden Disability Sunflower Scheme, where guests identifying as having a non-visible disability, impairment or access need can communicate their requirement for support discreetly with a sunflower lanyard, pin or bracelet—and we reckon that's pretty damn cool.

Amongst the many other reasons to love this stylish spot? The hugely popular and highly delicious plant-focused restaurant, East—an incredible Palm Springs-style rooftop bar Sunset—and all the modern, luxurious comforts you could need to make your stay in the city one to remember.

The Convent Hotel

454 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland

An exposed brick wall in a room at the Convent Hotel.Image credit: The Convent Hotel / Supplied

Convent by name, convent by nature (well, sorta). This beautiful, 22-room converted nunnery in Grey Lynn is steeped in history (it was constructed back in 1922) and oozes character from every nook and cranny, making it by far one of the most unique—and in our opinion, memorable—hotels in Auckland.

Big thumbs up to the design crew for staying true to the building's original Spanish mission house-style architecture (think ornate ceilings, stucco arches and vast steel windows), which is tastefully offset by all the usual mod cons.

Plus, it's a nearby walk for vegan pastries at Maison des Lys, a drink or two at Pocket Bar or cheeky Uber ride to the respective entertainment havens of Ponsonby and K' Rd—though we wouldn't blame you for staying in, considering The Convent is also home to the incredibly delicious Italian-inspired eatery (and Urban List fave), Ada as well as a cute bar for pre and post snacking.
