Why Capella Singapore Is One Of The Best Hotels In Singapore (And The World)

Capella Singapore has a serious trophy cabinet. The Sentosa resort holds a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating and, in 2026, marked its 14th consecutive year at Five-Star level. It has also been recognised by Travel + Leisure as one of Singapore's best hotels, while sister properties have helped Capella retain its position as Travel + Leisure's No. 1 hotel brand in the world for four consecutive years. After spending a few nights here with my husband and our two children, aged five and 16 months, I think I finally understood what makes Capella so consistently well regarded.

Spread across 30 acres of lush grounds on Sentosa, Capella is a hotel that rewards you for slowing down. The setting is beautiful, the rooms are enormous, the service is incredibly thoughtful and there is just enough going on to make a stay feel special without ever becoming overwhelming. For us, staying in one of the villas made the experience particularly memorable. It gave us the space and flexibility we needed with two young children, while still delivering all the details you'd expect from one of Singapore's most celebrated luxury hotels.

The Villa Was Perfect For Our Family

We stayed in a one-bedroom villa with our two children and, for us, it was the ideal setup. The generous living space and private pool gave us plenty of room to spread out, while having everything on one level made the villa incredibly easy to navigate with a toddler.

The private pool was probably my favourite part. When our youngest needed a nap, we could settle him down and continue enjoying the villa rather than having to put our day on hold. We could sit by the pool, have something to eat or simply relax while he slept.

In-room dining was another game changer. With a five-year-old and a 16-month-old, sometimes the easiest option is dinner in your own space, and Capella makes that feel like part of the luxury rather than a compromise. We could order food, eat at our own pace and let the kids wind down without worrying about keeping everyone entertained in a restaurant.

The villa gave us something that is particularly valuable when travelling with children: flexibility. We could spend the whole day at the resort without feeling confined to a hotel room.

The Pools Are Designed For Different Kinds Of Stays

Capella has three pools, each with a distinct purpose. The adults-only pool offers a quieter space for grown-ups, the family-friendly pool has a shallow section for children, and the third is a lap pool.
With our kids, we naturally gravitated towards the family pool. The shallow section was perfect for little ones, and there were toys and floats available to borrow, which was such a thoughtful touch. Our five-year-old was happily occupied in the water while our toddler could safely splash around in the shallower section.

Having the adults-only pool as an option is also a lovely detail. It means the resort can accommodate families while still maintaining spaces designed specifically for guests looking for peace and quiet.

Of course, our villa pool gave us another option altogether. Between the three pools and the private pool at the villa, we barely needed a reason to leave the resort.

Capella Knows How To Make Kids Feel Welcome

The family-friendly touches at Capella are particularly well judged. They never overwhelm the hotel or change its atmosphere, but they make a real difference when you're travelling with children.
Both of our kids received a hornbill soft toy when we arrived, which was an instant hit. Our five-year-old also loved the Shrinky Dink charm-making workshop, where she got to create her own little keepsake.

She was also completely obsessed with Capella's Island Explorer programme. The experience invites young travellers to discover the resort's rainforest and heritage grounds through nature, wildlife and exploration. The package includes an Explorer Kit with a journal, colouring pencils, drawstring bag and, best of all, an instant camera to keep, as well as an Island Explorer badge and certificate on completion. The camera was the biggest hit. Our daughter loved taking her own photographs around the resort and watching them develop, and it gave her a reason to properly explore the grounds and look at everything through her own lens.

What I appreciated most was that the hotel didn't need to constantly announce itself as family-friendly. It simply felt like families had been considered in the way the resort operates.

The Rooms Are Exceptionally Spacious

Even if you're not booking a villa, Capella's accommodation is generous. Premier Rooms start at 77 square metres, with suites and villas offering considerably more space. Our villa gave us enough room to properly settle in, with separate areas for relaxing, eating and sleeping, while still keeping everything on one level.

The thoughtful touches for families extended to the bathroom. A Stokke baby bath was provided for our youngest, along with children's toiletries, which meant we didn't need to worry about bringing everything from home. The bathroom itself was a highlight, with an outdoor bath and both an indoor and outdoor shower. The outdoor setup was particularly lovely, adding another little sense of escape to the stay.

The villa was beautifully designed with warm timber, natural materials, soft colours and plenty of light. There was space for the pram, children's belongings and all the inevitable luggage that comes with travelling with two kids, without the room ever feeling cluttered.

It was these practical details that really stood out. Luxury is wonderful, but when you're travelling with a baby, having the right things already waiting in your room can make an enormous difference.

Dining Is A Big Part Of The Experience

Fiamma is the resort's Italian restaurant, with a relaxed atmosphere that works particularly well for families. Cassia offers a more refined Cantonese dining experience, while Bob's Bar is the place to settle in for drinks and snacks.

Bob's Bar was a particular favourite for us because of its al fresco setting. The kids could wander around outside, chasing the resident peacocks and exploring the grounds, while my husband and I actually managed to sit down and enjoy a cocktail. It was one of those rare family moments where everyone was entertained and nobody was asking to leave.

For us, in-room dining was another highlight. Having the option to order a proper meal to the villa meant we could eat well without having to coordinate bedtime, tired children and restaurant timings. It's a small detail that becomes a very big deal when you're travelling with young kids.

The Setting Is A Huge Part Of Capella's Appeal

Capella occupies 30 acres of lush grounds on Sentosa, with heritage buildings, contemporary architecture and views towards the South China Sea. The original colonial buildings sit alongside the modern structures designed by Foster + Partners, creating a property that feels deeply connected to its surroundings.

The grounds are one of my favourite things about the hotel. There is greenery everywhere, with winding paths, mature trees and plenty of little pockets to discover. Even with the kids, there were moments when we could simply wander around and enjoy being outside.

And while the resort feels wonderfully removed from the pace of the city, you are still in Singapore. Palawan Beach is just beyond the property, while the central area is only a short drive away.

Auriga Spa Is Worth Making Time For

Auriga Spa is another reason Capella has such a strong reputation for wellness. The spa has retained its Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for 2026, alongside the hotel itself.

As a parent travelling with two young children, I didn't get nearly as much spa time as I would have liked—although that is probably a good reason to return without them. Even so, the spa adds another dimension to the resort and makes it very easy to build an entire stay around rest and relaxation.

The Service Is Exceptional

The service is where all the individual elements of Capella really come together. The resort's Culturists are there to help personalise your stay, from organising activities and experiences to making recommendations and taking care of the details.

But it was the smaller, more human moments that really stayed with me. One night, our 16-month-old became unwell and vomited all over the bed. We suspect he had simply swallowed a little too much pool water earlier in the day, but at the time, dealing with a sick baby in the middle of the night was not exactly how we'd planned our evening. I called housekeeping and they were there within minutes. The sheets were changed, everything was cleaned up and we were left to settle our little one without any fuss or embarrassment. It was such a simple thing, but those are the moments when you really notice the quality of a hotel's service.

The same thoughtfulness appeared throughout our stay: the hornbill toys waiting for our children, the pool toys and floats, the kids' toiletries, the baby bath and the way staff interacted with our children. Nothing felt excessive, it was simply thoughtful.

Why I'd Go Back

After staying at Capella with my family, I can see why it continues to appear on lists of the world's best hotels. For me, it isn't about one standout feature. It's the way everything works together: the setting, the architecture, the spacious accommodation, the food, the pools, the spa and, above all, the service.

But the real test for me was how the hotel worked with two young children in tow. Our five-year-old had the freedom to swim, explore and take part in activities, while our 16-month-old had the space and flexibility he needed. My husband and I still felt like we were staying at a genuinely special luxury resort. That balance is difficult to get right, but Capella manages it beautifully.
