Singapore's biggest birthday bash is back. This year, National Day Parade returns to the National Stadium for the first time in a decade, bringing more seats, a first-of-its-kind indoor drone light show, massive special effects and all the patriotic singalongs you can handle.

Whether you're hoping to score tickets, planning where to catch the action or simply wondering what's actually different this year, here's everything you need to know about National Day 2026 in Singapore.

When Is National Day 2026?

National Day falls on Sunday 9 August 2026, with the main National Day Parade (NDP) taking place at the National Stadium in Kallang.

If you missed out on parade tickets, there are also two preview shows taking place ahead of the main event:

  • NDP Preview 1: Saturday 25 July 2026
  • NDP Preview 2: Saturday 1 August 2026

What Is National Day Parade?

National Day Parade, or NDP, is Singapore's annual celebration of independence and one of the country's biggest events of the year.

The parade combines military traditions, cultural performances, live music, aerial displays, community participation and large-scale entertainment productions, all culminating in a celebration of Singapore's birthday on 9 August.

What's The Theme For NDP 2026?

This year's theme is "Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond!" According to organisers, the theme celebrates Singapore's spirit of progress while encouraging Singaporeans to continue pushing boundaries, supporting one another and looking ahead to the future.

Where Is NDP 2026 Being Held?

After ten years away, NDP is returning to the National Stadium at Singapore Sports Hub.

The move marks a significant shift from recent editions held at the Padang and means more Singaporeans will be able to attend thanks to the stadium's larger capacity. Around 42,000 spectators are expected to be accommodated inside the venue, compared to roughly 27,000 at The Float and recent Padang setups.

It's also a fully sheltered venue, meaning the show can go on rain or shine.

Why NDP 2026 Is Different

While many of the traditions remain the same, this year's parade is being completely reimagined for the National Stadium. Some of the biggest changes include:

  • The first NDP at the National Stadium since 2016
  • NDP's first-ever indoor drone light show
  • The largest indoor special effects presentation in parade history
  • A show platform spanning the length of a football field
  • The largest civilian participation segment in more than a decade
  • New experiences and activities around the wider Kallang precinct

In short, expect a much more immersive, technology-driven production than we've seen in recent years.

What To Expect At NDP 2026

A First-Ever Indoor Drone Light Show

The headline act this year is NDP's first-ever indoor drone light show. Hundreds of drones will take flight inside the National Stadium as part of a large-scale multimedia production featuring projections, aerial performers, stage lifts and visual effects. Organisers have also confirmed it will be the largest indoor special effects presentation in NDP history.

Fireworks Are Still Happening

If you've heard rumours that fireworks are being replaced by drones, that's not actually the case.
The official NDP 2026 programme confirms that fireworks will still form part of the celebrations alongside the new drone show. The difference is that this year's celebrations are centred around the National Stadium and Kallang precinct rather than Marina Bay.

At the time of writing, organisers have not announced any separate Marina Bay fireworks programme.

The Return Of Parade Favourites

Several traditional crowd favourites are also making a comeback, including:

  • State Flag Flypast
  • Feu-de-Joie
  • Presidential Gun Salute
  • Military parade contingents
  • Mass singalongs and community performances

For the first time, the Presidential Gun Salute will take place at Kallang Basin, bringing part of the celebration closer to the public outside the stadium.

What Won't Be Returning This Year?

Due to the National Stadium venue and operational requirements, a few fan favourites won't feature in their usual form. These include:

  • The Red Lions parachute display
  • The traditional mobile column
  • The full aerial display over the parade venue
  • No Heartland celebrations

Instead, organisers are leaning into immersive stage design, special effects and technology-driven experiences.

How To Get NDP 2026 Tickets

NDP tickets are free and allocated through a ballot system. For 2026, Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents were able to apply through the official NDP website using Singpass.

Key dates included:

  • Ballot period: 23 May to 6 June 2026
  • Results notification: 15 to 17 June 2026

Applicants could request two, four or six tickets for either Preview 1, Preview 2 or the National Day Parade itself.

Missed out? Don't lose hope just yet. Additional ticket giveaways are typically held through official NDP channels, sponsors and community organisations in the lead-up to August.

Are There National Day Events Beyond The Parade?

Yes. While the parade is the headline event, National Day celebrations usually extend beyond the National Stadium itself.

Visitors can expect community activities, family-friendly programmes and public activations around the Kallang precinct in the lead-up to 9 August. Organisers have also launched a nationwide treasure hunt and a six-part microdrama series titled Heartbeats as part of this year's celebrations. Unfortunately, there won’t be any Heartland celebrations this year, but there will still be plenty of NDP-themed events happening around Singapore.

Can You Watch Without Tickets?

Absolutely. While access to the National Stadium requires a ticket, spectators will still be able to soak up the atmosphere around the wider Kallang precinct, where several elements of the celebrations will extend beyond the stadium itself.

Further details on public viewing opportunities are expected closer to National Day.
