Grab Your Furry Pal For The Best Dog-Friendly Sunshine Coast Walks

By Sophie Wright

If dogs could talk, we’re sure they’d beg you to spice up the exercise regime every once in awhile, instead of the usual round-the-block route, past that tree they have sniffed every day.

There aren’t many better ways to explore the Sunshine Coast’s natural beauty than with a nice long walk, and if you’ve got a pup, it’s almost guaranteed that their ears will prick up at the mention of the 'w' word. Luckily, we’ve got your back on this one. Grab the leash—here are some of the best dog-friendly walks on the Sunshine Coast.

Noosa Woods

Noosa

Just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Hastings Street lies Noosa Woods, part of the Noosa Spit Reserve. These delightful bushland trails will, one way or another, lead you to the lush Noosa Spit, where both you and pooch can cool off. Make like Dora and pack your bag for this adventure, because we’re telling you, the Noosa Spit is a prime picnic spot.

Point Cartwright

Buddina

The Point Cartwright and Buddina area offers plenty of choice when it comes to dog-friendly walks on the Sunshine Coast. In the reserve and along various sections along Buddina Beach, dogs can roam free—just check the signs for the times. Otherwise, pop a leash on your pup and head south along the paved track until you can walk no more. As a guide, a stroll to the Kawana Surf Club and back is about a five kilometre round trip.

Stumers Creek Beach Walk

Coolum Beach

Stumers Creek is a winner of a spot for peeps and pups alike. Just past Coolum Beach village, heading north, begins a gorgeous stretch of dog-friendly beach, perfect for a promenade with your pooch. Park in town and stroll the 2.5km along the shoreline to Stumers Creek and back for a solid walk, or you can start right where all the action is, at the end of Stumers Creek Road.

North Shore Beach

Twin Waters

This one’s not an official track, but you just can’t beat a walk along the water’s edge. The somewhat-untouched southern tip of Mudjimba is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most beautiful spots, and your pup can bask in its glory too—it’s off-leash 24/7. With rolling waves on one side, and the pristine Maroochy River on the other, you and your furry friend will be treated to the best of both worlds. Jump in the car and head along North Shore Road till you reach the beach, then ride off into the sunset with your faithful hound.

Cotton Tree To Mooloolaba Pathway

Maroochy Area

Following the coastline from Cotton Tree Park all the way to Mooloolaba Spit, this section of the council’s Coastal Pathway is a combo of paved footpath and boardwalk. Passing through Maroochydore, Alex Heads and Mooloolaba, your dog will be way too keen to discover all the sights and sounds this 10km round trip has to offer, and you can treat yourself to a pitstop at any of the top-notch coffee spots along the way. Power up Alex Hill and you’ve smashed the hardest part. Go team.

If this has inspired you to get out and embrace nature more, hit up our prettiest walks on and around the Sunshine Coast.
