If you needed another excuse to plan a long lunch by the water, here it is: a brand-new restaurant is about to open its doors at the Mooloolaba Spit, and it’s already making waves.
Say hello to Fish House Steak & Grill—the latest venture from Kristine and Todd Young, the duo behind Sunshine Coast icon, the multi-award-winning Bella Venezia.

Taking over the former Fish on Parkyn and Sakana sites, this slick newcomer at Mooloolaba Spit is serving up refined coastal dining with a Japanese twist. Think: line-caught seafood straight from the wharves, premium dry-aged steaks and a killer cocktail list.
The kitchen is headed up by Executive Chef Ben Achurch (yes, the mastermind behind Bella Venezia’s string of culinary accolades), and the menu is a love letter to local Sunshine Coast produce with plenty of playful Japanese influence.

What to order, you ask? Fine, we’ll share. We’ll be digging into the baked Glacier 51 toothfish with Peachester honey miso, half-shell Hokkaido scallops perched on pumpkin purée with finger lime pearls and salsa seca, and sashimi-grade Mooloolaba yellowfin tuna with yuzu ponzu and wasabi.
We would be remiss not to mention the finely hand-cut Granite Belt Wagyu tartare layered with confit spring onion, roasted chilli oil, fermented black garlic, and a smooth wasabi emulsion, crowned with crisp lotus root.
For steak lovers, the charred Diamantina Wagyu sirloin with house-made Wagyu jus is already shaping up to be a crowd favourite.

Inside, the fit-out oozes laid-back luxury with natural textures with a semi-open kitchen for grill-side theatre and an impressive dry-aged beef display.
The venue seats 100 indoors, plus 30 alfresco for those balmy Sunshine Coast evenings and even a private dining room for your next celebration.

If you’re more of a morning person, Fish House has also got you covered. Their relaxed outdoor dining area is open from 6:30am daily, serving easy grab-and-go eats for your pre-swim fuel-up or post-beach coffee fix.
With its prime waterfront position, elegant menu and a vibe that blends coastal charm with modern polish, Fish House Steak & Grill is easily one of the hottest new openings on the Sunshine Coast.
Fish House officially opens on Wednesday 27 August, 2025.
