Our favourite celebration of all things dazzling, delightful and death defying returns this January, as FRINGE WORLD brings its own brand of debauchery to Perth/Boorloo.
As per usual, the line up is banging, so we've rounded up the best of the best so you can get booking.
Messy Friends: Party Favours
From low rise jeans to micro minis, all things Y2K are back. Enter Messy Friends: Party Favours, a rewriting of the narrative that was the early 2000s party scene. Think the fabulousness (and messiness) of early noughts Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan meets the lewdness of American Pie, in a celebration of chaotic kick ons and house party nostalgia, all with a queer twist. This homage to coming-of-age rebellion is all wrapped up in queer quips and bawdy drag for a show that is guaranteed to make you blush. The Messy Friends will bring the party favours, you bring the noughties vibes.
Crème de la crème Cabaret
For a little sweet treat of a show, head to Crème de la crème Cabaret, a whirlwind of breathtaking acrobatics, outrageous stunts and comedy, with a sneaky hint of nudity thrown in for good measure. It’s a little cheeky, a little sexy, and a lot Fringe.
LASSÙ
This adults-only cosmic cabaret saloon a must watch. Think sexy space cowboys and saucy celestial cowgirls performing out-of-this-world circus feats. In true Fringe fashion, the show adds a provocative touch to the world of acrobatics, aerials and contortionism as a scantily clad cast performs risque acts.
Barbaroi
Circus meets cyberpunk in Barbaroi, a tale of a neon-lit dystopian underworld where gangs run the streets of a forgotten metropolis. To seek admission into the world of the meta-human Barbaroi gang means to embark on do or die initiation rituals. Twists, turns (literal and figuerative), high stakes acrobatics, and punk 80s references, Barbaroi has it all.
Maybe He's Born With It, Maybe It's ADHD
A must see for those living with ADHD, know someone with ADHD, or suspect they might have ADHD. So pretty much everyone. Colin Ebsworth brings him comedy genius to Fringe with this exploration of growing up a little neuro spicy. Comedy meets TED talk.
Outrageous III
Classic circus fanfare given a Fringe glow up, Outrageous III brings incredible acrobatics, awesome fire juggling, breathtaking aerials and jaw dropping contortionism to Perth. Returning for its third run at Perth Fringe, the show is giving Cirque du Soleil level tricks performed by local artists. A perfect pick for the whole family.
Skank Sinatra
Having taken out Best Cabaret at Fringe Adelaide, Skank Sinatra is bringing glam, glitter and witty reparte to Perth. Come along on a semi-autobiographical ride with drag performer and comedian Jens Radda, whose incredible vocals bring a new take to a number of Frank Sinatra classics. Of course, this is Fringe, so expect the show to be a little sexy, the comedy to be a little raunchy, and the experience to be unforgettable.
Titty Skittles
Join in a sexy celebration of women’s voices at Titty Skittles. Nine women take to the stage in a show of feminine diversity to share their stories thruogh song, dance, burlesque and music. Be uplifted, be empowered, be entertained.
Adore Händel’s Little Black Book
Head to the Rechabite to spend an hour with Adore Händel, an 18th century time-travelling pansexual. Intrigued? You should be. Be regaled with scandalous tales from Adore’s little black book, complete with love and lust, romps and rendezvous, told cabaret-style through a mindbending blend of opera and pop. Ticking all the Fringe boxes, this is comedy drag at its best.
Best Kept Secret
We’re loving the girl power vibes of this year’s Fringe line up, including the cabaret-inspired Best Kept Secret. Hear musings on life, love and sisterhood from five fabulous women in this feel good theatre piece. Yes, this show is all about amplifying women’s voices and reclaiming their stories, but it’s also about having a great time and there’s plenty of laughs, steamy dances, and witty banter along the way.
