Mooloolaba/Kabi Kai Country might be affectionately known as Noosa’s little cousin, but there’s nothing little about Mooloolaba’s dining scene. And specifically, Mooloolaba’s cafe scene hits well above its weight.

Whether you're in search of a cosy spot to sip on a morning latte or craving a delicious brunch by the sea, Mooloolaba's cafe scene has something to offer every palate. Here’s ten of the best Sunshine Coast cafes, according to the Urban List team.

Mixing vintage charm with modern flair, The Velo Project is a must-visit Mooloolaba cafe for socially-conscious foodies. Their innovative and sustainable menu features largely locally sourced, farm-fresh ingredients and creative flavour combinations that are sure to tantalise your taste buds.

The outdoor dining space is dog-friendly and the crew are as friendly as they are good at making an impeccable coffee. We can’t go past their huge selection of crepes—the salmon and avocado is impeccable. Even their coffee beans are locally roasted.

Located at the front of The Wharf Mooloolaba, Local Social Mooloolaba punches well above its weight when it comes to specialty coffee and loaded sandwiches. Of course, you’ll also find cold-pressed juices, smoothies, croissants, bagels and more here but we can’t go past the roast vegetable toastie.

Open seven days from 6:30am, Local Social is the sister cafe to Local Social Forest Glen and Sippy Social in Sippy Downs. They’ve garnered a loyal following for many delicious reasons, so you know you’re in safe hands.

Black Fox Cafe Bar

9 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

Disco balls, leopard print coffee mugs and foxy furnishings are all in order at Black Fox Cafe Bar.

Every creatively presented dish is a masterpiece waiting to be savoured, and organic Clandestino coffee abounds. Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast or a gourmet burger, you'll find plenty to love at this super funky eatery.

Bella Venezia

95 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

We would be remiss to write about Mooloolaba’s best dining spots without including Bella Venezia, a charming restaurant known for its authentic Italian fare and warm hospitality.

While not technically a cafe, Bella Venezia is open from 11:30am daily for lunch, where you can take your pick from traditional Napoletana-style pizzas, share plates perfect for long lunching or handmade pastas. From the Western Australian lobster ravioli to the grilled Mooloolaba king prawns, you'll find a taste of Italy (with a twist) right in the heart of Mooloolaba.

Backstreet Cafe

121 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

If direct beachfront views are your thing, you’re in luck. Aside from the impressive sunrise viewing spot, Backstreet Cafe also exudes rustic charm and serves up some of the best coffee in Mooloolaba.

Their specialty blends and expertly crafted brews are sure to impress even the most discerning coffee connoisseurs, and while the menu is simplistic we think it fits in perfectly with the laid-back nature of Mooloolaba.

Bucking Seahorse Cafe

Shop 9/87 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

Bucking Seahorse Cafe describes itself as “a creative little nook in the heart of Mooloolaba where people come to connect, recharge and enjoy a selection of coffee, tea, sandwiches, cakes, grazing platters, and booze”. We’d say that’s a pretty accurate summary.

Open from 5:30am seven days a week, Bucking Seahorse is as quirky as they come and we love that it’s dog-friendly. The coffee is made using Pioneer Coffee beans and everything is as local as possible. You can also book the entire space as a venue and the regular live tunes are as local as you can get, too.

Black Market Espresso Bar

Shop 11/34 River Esplanade, Mooloolaba

If there ever was a Mooloolaba cafe where it’s all about the locals, this might be it. Embrace the art of slow living at Black Market Espresso Bar, where quality coffee and community converge.

With its minimalist decor and expertly roasted Clandestino beans, this sweet cafe is open from 5am seven days a week but it closes at 11:30am so you’ll want to get in early.  The divine Naked Berry Smoothies are nothing to sneeze at, either.

De Ja Vu Cafe and Bar

4/47-51 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

Primely located on Mooloolaba Esplanade, the ever-bustling De Ja Vu Cafe and Bar knows not to change a good thing. The menu is extensive and showcases classic brunch items, and you’ll find Lavazza coffee pouring from 5am daily.

From classic breakfast staples like zucchini and corn fritters to loaded lunch plates like pan-seared salmon fillet, there's something for everyone on the menu. And the view? To die for.

Bleu Bean Cafe

3/104-106 Brisbane Rd, Mooloolaba

Escape the hustle and bustle of Mooloolaba city centre at Bleu Bean Cafe, where the tranquil ambiance and scenic canal views make this one of Mooloolaba’s best hidden gem cafes.

It’s quaint but that doesn’t mean that the all-day breakfast menu isn’t banging. Our top menu picks are the Thai omelette and savoury mince, all paired with a Coffee Supreme brew.

Melody's Licensed Cafe

Shop 6/121 Mooloolaba Esplanade, Mooloolaba

Boasting enviable ocean views from its alfresco dining area, the family-owned Melody's Cafe is a beloved local haunt known for its friendly atmosphere and scrumptious breakfast offerings. It’s pet-friendly and family-friendly so no one needs to miss out.

From fluffy pancakes to hearty omelettes, this charming cafe has something to tempt every taste bud. It’s simple, fuss-free and damn delicious.
