This Bold Performance Blends Movement, Music And Drama Into One Monumental Production
In a daring fusion of art forms, Queensland Ballet is set to blur the lines of classical ballet with a bold new production coming to Brisbane in 2026. Queensland Ballet’s Messa da Requiem is set to reach an unforgettable calibre of production and scale, blending breathtaking movement with live orchestra and choral music. In one refined, yet equally monumental performance, ballet dancers and choral singers will share the stage.
A bold new staging of Giuseppe Verdi’s famous 1874 musical masterpiece, this experience is set to stir the soul and the senses when it hits the Glasshouse Theatre from 27 March to 4 April, 2026. Due to be completed in late 2025, the Glasshouse Theatre will officially open in early 2026, and Messa da Requiem will be the first production to take its grand stage. After a long-awaited opening, the 1500-seat venue is perfectly poised to set the scene for such a momentous performance.
As the first Australian ballet company to perform Messa da Requiem, Queensland Ballet’s rendition reaches beyond conventional storytelling, joining forces with the incredible sound of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Brisbane Canticum Chamber and Chorale Choirs.
Choreography by acclaimed European dancer and choreographer Christian Spuck will work in perfect symphony with the elegance of Verdi's score—brought to life by the voices and movement of an incredible 110 singers and 36 dancers.
Theatrical and deeply human, Messa da Requiem explores themes of death, judgment, and redemption with gripping drama and lyrical beauty—blending the sacred solemnity of the Catholic funeral Mass with the emotional intensity of opera as the performance moves from terror to hope, capturing life, loss and redemption.
Whether you're deeply familiar with Verdi's work or this will be your first time witnessing it live, this production is set to be a deeply moving and breathtakingly bold experience that you won't want to miss.
