All The Best Events You Need To Hit Up This April

Even though it feels like 2019 just began, somehow it’s already April.

Luckily, this month is a jam-packed month here on the Sunshine Coast, with plenty of great events to fill up your social calendars. From bingo nights and beer festivals, to surf competitions and a bunch of live gigs, here are 15 awesome things to do on the Sunshine Coast this April.

Music Trivia Nights 

Sol Bar is kicking off its very own music trivia night starting from Thursday 4 April. There’ll be musically-themed questions, games, competitions and prizes, and you’ll be quizzed on all forms, styles, eras and genres of music. So get a team of your most musically-inclined friends together and put your brains (and ears) to the test for a fun night.

When: Every Thursday, 6pm to 9pm

Bogan Bingo 

Grab your flanno and round up your mates for a night of Bogan Bingo. Your ticket will get you a drink on arrival, nibbles, Bingo, a ticket in the meat tray raffle, prizes for best dressed and an air guitar competition, plus a daggy disco to finish off the night. All proceeds raised go to the MND & Me Foundation, which raises money for families affected by Motor Neuron Disease. So, trim those mullets and treat yourself to a night out for a good cause.

Fresh AF Hip Hop RnB Fridays 

Hip hop and RnB fans, you finally have your own club dancefloor dedicated to the throwback beats of the 90s and early 2000s. Ocean Street bar Old Soul has turned their Friday evenings into a classy ghetto, and will feature a new DJ every week. If you love getting down to the tunes of Biggie, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Beyoncé, then be sure to head to Old Soul for your Friday dance fix.

When: Every Friday, from 8pm to 3pm

Australian Body Art Festival 

Whether you’re a seasoned body artist yourself or you’re just curious about the world of body-painting, then be sure to check out the Australian Body Art Festival. Held over two days, there’ll be a jam-packed program of different body art competitions, as well as food vendors, market stalls, roving entertainment and live performances. Entries for competitions are still open, and the theme this year is ‘Other Worlds’, so prepare yourself for out-of-this-world creations and designs. 

When: Saturday 6 April and Sunday 7 April, from 9am to 4pm

Local Taps Takeover 2.0

Taps Mooloolaba’s Local Taps Takeover is back for its second year running, bringing with it new local brewers, live entertainment and plenty of fun. Taps is all about good beer, so you can be sure that you’ll be treated to something very special. Keep your eye on their Facebook page for more event details coming soon. But one thing’s for sure, you can expect good beers, good food and good times.

When: Saturday 6 April, from 11.30am to 1am

Miss Moneypenny’s Bottomless Brunch 

Prepare yourself for the ultimate brunch experience at Miss Moneypenny’s bottomless brunch. Made up of four interactive brunch stations, there’s something for everyone, from the Calabrese station (hello cured meats and cheeses) to the Positano station, you’ll be able to piece together your ultimate brunch. Think seafood, pulled lamb shoulder, freshly-shucked oysters, tropical fruits, doughnuts, pastries, waffles and Napoli-style pizzas, all in one meal. Oh, and don’t even get us started on the cocktail menu…it’s just too good. If you’re serious about your brunch game, then this is the place for you. Bookings are essential.

Sunshine Coast Ukulele Festival 

If you’re looking for something a bit different to fill up your weekend, this could be a winner. Whether you are a Ukulele expert or you just like the laid-back sound of these little four-stringed instruments, you’ll get your ukulele fix at this year’s Ukulele Festival. With four days of workshops, dancing, singing, live performances, open mic sessions and jam sessions, you’re bound to find something that tickles your fancy. Showcasing Ukulele experts from Australia and around the globe, the Sunshine Coast’s 6th Ukulele Festival is going to be bigger and better than ever. 

When: Thursday 11 April to Sunday 14 April 
Where: Kenilworth Showgrounds

If you’re into extreme sports, then you’ll be excited to know that the SCX games are back and bigger than ever. Three crowd-judged extreme sports events will be taking place across two days, including a freeride jet ski competition, a skate park competition including BMX, skateboard and scooter events, and a jet ski race. Download the SCX app to be a part of all the action and vote for your favourite competitors. There’ll also be food and drinks available, as well as music and constant entertainment. It definitely won’t be boring. 

When: Friday 12 April to Saturday 13 April, from 7am to 5pm
Where: Alexandra Headland Skate Park, 167 Alexandra Parade, Alexandra Headland
Cost: Free to spectate; $20 to $200 to enter a competition

A Set Adrift Featuring The Sharktones 

Sit back, relax and enjoy some sweet tunes while A Set Adrift treats you to a 2-hour ocean cruise on the deck of a catamaran yacht. As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also be serenaded by the cool tunes of The Sharktones, and will also enjoy a mid-set dip in the ocean with the band. Your ticket will also get you a beer and a cheese platter, as well as two 45-minute sets from the band. All other drinks are BYO, so be sure to bring along a six-pack and your togs. There are only 20 tickets per event so be sure to get in quick to secure your spot.

Pa Ma Bendall Memorial Surfing Contest 

Celebrate the Easter long weekend with some top-notch surfing at Caloundra’s Moffat Beach. The longest running surfing competition in Australia, the contest has a total of $10,000 in prize money to give away. The competition is not only a celebration of surfing and the ocean, but of Caloundra surfing legends Ma and Pa Bendall. So take those Easter chocolates down to the beach for an afternoon picnic and while away the time watching some pro surfers do their thing. Or, if you’re pretty skilled with a board yourself, it’s not too late to register.

When: Friday 19 April to Sunday 21 April, from 6.30am to 3pm
Where: Moffat Beach, Caloundra 
Cost: Free to spectate; $80 to $100 to register

Kokedama Workshop 

Learn how to make your very own Kokedama at The Posy Co’s Kokedama workshop. If you’re not familiar with what a Kokedama actually is, they’re those aesthetically pleasing little balls of soil that you can grow plants in and make little hanging gardens with. So, why not get some floristry experts to teach you how to make, grow and care for your very own Kokedama. No experience is necessary, and The Posy Co will provide all the materials and expertise you need. You’ll be a pro in no time.

Easter Sunday At Spicers Clovelly Estate 

Enjoy a relaxing Easter Sunday in style at Spicers Clovelly Estate in Montville. Dine on a delicious a la carte lunch presented by their on-site chefs while enjoying live acoustic entertainment. Then, finish off the day with an adult Easter egg hunt from 3pm (because us grown ups love an Easter egg hunt just as much as the kids). Bookings are essential, so reserve your spot ASAP.

Yoga And Wine 

If you’re yoga lover, wine lover or both, then this event has your name all over it. Join The Yoga Sessions and Varsha Yoga in a sweaty vinyasa session, and then a mindful sipping session where you will explore all five senses. Choose from red, white or sparkling kombucha, and meet other locals who love yoga and wine just as much as you do. Afterwards, join the team downstairs for a dinner at Glasshouse Brewery and keep the good times going.

Mets On Kings: King Of Craft Beer Fest 

The King Of Craft Beer Fest is a celebration of good beer and good times, and this year will be no different. Aussie brewers Stone & Wood, Byron Bay Brewery, Pan Head Custom Ales, Somersby Cider and Mountain Goat will all be there, as well as local brewers Your Mates and Brouhaha. Your ticket will get you five free drink tickets, one item from the King Of Beer Fest menu, access to live entertainment, promotional giveaways and even a key ring (winning!). Last year’s event sold out so be sure to book your tickets stat to secure your spot. 

When: Saturday 27 April, from 1pm to 5pm

Italian Long Lunch 

Noosa Waterfront Restaurant and Bar is hosting an Italian long lunch that’ll have you feeling like you’re sitting in a coastal restaurant in Positano. You’ll be treated to an antipasti share plate, homemade artisan bread, a selection of housemade pasta, as well as a main course, sides, and a dessert share plate. You’ll also get a glass of Prosecco on arrival to really get those Italian vibes flowing. Trust us, this is one long lunch you definitely want to get a ticket for.
