The sandwich movement—nay, cult—has slowly but surely made its way to the Sunshine Coast and it's been met with open arms (and even wider mouths). To people who say they could give up bread, we say sandwiches. We say loaded sandos, stacked-to-the-max subs and cheese-stuffed toasties.

Sando lovers, you’re in luck because the Sunshine Coast’s first specialty sandwich shop has just swung open its doors on Mooloolaba Esplanade and it’s safe to say we’re already obsessed. The creator behind a multiple of Sunshine Coast icons such as Criminal Coffee Company, Walter’s Diner and (formerly) The Toast Office, Danny Simmonds, has launched his first solo venture and it’s as epic as expected.

Sandos, subs and toasties are the main order of business at Don Sangas and that’s a dynamic trio if we ever heard one. The signature Hale Caesar is a sublime combination of smoked bacon crumb, herb-roasted chicken, shredded lettuce, parmesan cheese, Swiss cheddar and dill kewpie mayo; enough said.

On the subs front, we’re big fans of the Montagu (a nod to John Montagu, the original inventor of the sandwich) with herb-roasted chicken breast, Don’s pesto, sundried tomato, rocket, ranch mayo and Swiss cheddar.

The Reuben toastie with eight-hour slow cooked brisket, pastrami, yellow seed mustard, sauerkraut, pickle, kewpie and melted cheddar is also a winner. There are also vegetarian options for our vege friends.

Don Sangas is all about “honouring the sandwich in all its glory” and once you’ve chowed down on one of their sandos, you’ll have to agree they’ve done a great job of honouring it. We've heard that two more sando shops are in the works for Noosa and Bokarina, so we’ll have more details for you soon.
