Celebrate Local Cuisine With Wildwood Kangaroo Valley’s Long Lunch

By

Wildwood Kangaroo Valley

Do you like your weekend getaways served up with a long lunch of local produce and washed down with a sip or three of wine? Us too. That’s why we’re booking a trip to Kangaroo Valley, stat.

Gather the gang (and your dog if you want) and prepare to celebrate local community and cuisine as Wildwood Kangaroo Valley hosts the Terra Firma Long Lunch across two days, Saturday, 2 August, and Sunday, 3 August.

Sunshine Coast-based immersive outdoor fire caterers Terra Firma bring their unique seated long lunch to the breathtaking venue, set on 100-acres of subtropical rainforest, with a backdrop of sweeping sandstone escarpment.

Inside Wildwood Kangaroo Valley’s reception hall, sheltered from the elements, expect a feast of local produce from the land and sea, and barbecue side chats with Charly on the Argentinian asado, plus condiments from Kangaroo Valley local, Angie’s Food.

Dishes include ingredients from local producers, including Terrawah Farm, Rosewood Farm and The Valley Table and the multi-course meal, served at long tables, is paired with selected wines and beers from Kangaroo Valley Fine Wines and Craft Ales.

Adding to the vibe, there’ll be a jazz quartet playing a set inspired by Django Rhineheart and Stéphane Grappelli on a summer’s day.

Got little ones? That’s no trouble, as the legends who organised this long lunch put their best thinking caps on when it came to ensuring a fabulous time for younger guests aged six and over.

For an additional fee, they can join Drew Longbottom, traditional custodian of the land on which Wildwood Kangaroo Valley sits, and two WWCC-accredited adults for their own bush tucker adventure through the fairy bower and a bend in the creek to a secret clearing where there’ll be face-painting and dancing.

Their adventure is separate from the reception hall and the Terra Firma long lunch, but close enough to be visited by parents.

“We are thrilled to host the Long Lunch event and showcase the incredible local produce and wine that Kangaroo Valley has to offer,” Wildwood Kangaroo Valley owner Alex Herlihy says. “Our aim is to create an unforgettable dining experience that celebrates the community and the region's unique culinary identity.”

Fancy making a proper weekend of it and staying over? Campers can arrange to make Bendeela Recreation Area at the bottom of the road their base (bookings required), lock in an Airbnb in Kangaroo Valley or an alternative stay.

The Terra Firma Long Lunch events will begin at 12pm and conclude at 4.30pm on Saturday, 2 August, and Sunday, 3 August. Tickets are limited and bookings are essential, so grab yours now.
