The Best Korean Bakeries In Sydney

It’s hard enough to peel us away from an enticing offer of a sweet treat on any given day, but if you’re talking about buttery, beautifully laminated salt bread or kimchi-infused croissants, we’ll be the first in line.

Korean bakeries have been seriously making their mark on Sydney’s bustling cafe scene. And if the out-the-door queues on any given Sunday morning weren’t enough to convince you, let the fluffy, sweet-but-not-too-sweet treats do the talking instead (the ultimate compliment for any Asian dessert).

Whether you’re after a pick-me-up on a weekday or you’re gearing up for the weekend pastry marathon, we’ve found the best Korean bakeries in Sydney/Eora that need to be on your radar, stat. And the best thing? You won’t even need to fork out for a flight to South Korea to indulge (a huge money win).

Buttered

Set in a chic warehouse space in Chippendale, Buttered has been making the rounds on social media (and rightfully so). Headed by Phillip Choi, who has a resume packed with Seoul’s hottest patisseries, Buttered offers some of the best Korean baked goodies without hopping on a 10-hour flight across the globe.

With a gigantic display counter featuring all the flavours of salt bread you can imagine—from the original sea-salt sprinkled bun to the incredibly well-balanced corn-cheese filled variety (our personal favourite)—you’d be lying to yourself if you said you’ll be good and “only pick one”.

But the magic doesn’t just stop at salt bread. Don’t leave without trying the pull-apart, butter-laden tissue bread—a beautifully layered, cube-shaped croissant —in sweet matcha, tangy lemon meringue, and indulgent salted caramel.

  • Pop in on your lunch break and take a few back to the office for your fellow office pals (they’ll love you forever), or add it to your viral weekend bakery hitlist.

ENA

If there’s anything that’s worth crossing the bridge for, it’s a seat at ENA. Formerly known as Moon Phase, ENA is tucked away in an unassuming alleyway serving buttery, flaky morsels with an Asian-inspired twist.

Expect flavours like black sesame and matcha to dominate the classics, but the real showstopper (in our humble opinion) is the textural masterpiece of the Char Siu Pastry – a flaky croissant meticulously criss-crossed in red, filled with honey-glazed housemade BBQ pork, and finished with a speck of gold leaf to really seal the deal. But be warned, it is a bit heavy for breakfast, so we’d recommend dropping by in the morning and taking it away to enjoy later in the day.

  • Seating is limited both indoors and outdoors, so pack a picnic mat in case you need to get these goodies to take away.

When a bakery opens up and sells one thing (and one thing only), you know it has to be good. Enze’s cloud-soft chiffon cakes are one of the most-talked-about creations for those in the know, and with its recent residency in the heart of Sydney in Barangaroo, their fluffy slices are unlike anything we’ve ever tasted before.

Whether you have a special occasion coming up, or you’re keen to pop down for a treat-yourself slice (yes, you can get them by the slice), Enze has your sweet cravings covered. Choose from a variety of Asian-inspired flavours, such as the viral strawberry mochi or jasmine and mandarin, and watch as the chiffon springs back with every bite.

  • Seating is available at the Ryde location, but expect to take away a slice to enjoy by the water if you’re visiting their Barangaroo store.

Ten Thousand

Butter Tteok is having a real moment—and you can try these crispy, crunchy, chewy delights at none other than Ten Thousand. Situated amongst some of the most authentic Korean spots in Sydney, Ten Thousand is filled with sliding glass cabinets displaying an almost overwhelming amount of Korean-style pastries.

Our tip? Bee-line for their salt bread (don’t just get one, trust us), pick up a wedge of their garlic-and-cream-cheese bun (that’s oozing with filling) before finishing off your tray with a cheeky square of Butter Tteok.

  • Once a lunchbox treat (if you were lucky), the Choco Pie has been brought back to our recent memory thanks to Ten Thousand. For a hit of nostalgia, pick up a fresh chocolatey number for the road—except this one won’t be individually wrapped in red.

Sofe Bakery

12 Railway Avenue, Wahroonga

There are only a handful of things we’d make the trek for—and delicious Korean pastries are definitely one of them. Situated in Wahroonga, Sofe Bakery is the newest Korean bakery to pique our interest. From viral chocolate and walnut baguettes to their crunchy baby tiger salt bread, while they’re still fresh in the game (they only opened their doors a couple of months ago), their creations speak for themselves.

Pick a few pieces that tickle your fancy and pair them with an iced long black for the ultimate Sunday bakery combo. But, if you had to choose only one thing to order, make it the baby tiger salt bread—trust us, you won’t regret it.

Insider Intel
  • They’re closed on Mondays and Thursdays to ensure everything is fresh (and also because of their small kitchen space). So make sure you plan your trip to Sofe Bakery accordingly to avoid heartbreak.
