Pet-friendly accommodation in NSW. If it was easy to find the best of the best, all us dog parents and cat carers would have a whole lot more free time on our hands. We’d potentially be holidaying a lot more too.

True, our whiskered friends may not pay rent but damn, even they deserve to come on a weekend getaway from time to time. That’s why we’ve gone and found some of the best pet-friendly stays in NSW, so you can spend less time convincing your friends and family that looking after Fido for a few days really is a good idea.

The good news is that pet-friendly accommodation in NSW has really stepped up a notch too, we’re not serving you any old properties. We’re giving award-winning eco retreats in the bush, stunning tiny homes with glass cube showers and beautifully restored beach shack cottages with all the wide open spaces.

Read on for the best pet friendly accommodation in NSW.

Arabella

KANGAROO VALLEY

tiny home within the bush

In NSW, there’s no denying we love a good tiny house. Arabella fits a maximum of four people and features a fully-operation kitchen and outdoor gas BBQ. There’s also a combustion heater inside for chilly evenings and air-con for scorcher-worthy nights. Located on a 140-acre property, this escape is surrounded by tall, dense bushland that’s home to Kangaroo Valley’s precious wildlife. Will you see wombats, kookaburras, and kangaroos in one day? Yes. While your furry friend is out chewing twigs, you can keep a close eye from the sanctuary of Arabella’s outdoor bathtub fully enclosed in a giant, glass cube.

FOXGROUND

tiny home within forest

Rainforest, an outdoor shower, a firepit and ultimate seclusion. If that doesn’t sound like your dream weekend away we don’t know what does. This tiny home punches well above its weight with a fully functional kitchen, all the bathroom amenities you could ever need and an outdoor BBQ area. There’s also a myriad of local beaches, shops and cafes close by if going completely off-grid isn’t your vibe.

The Gumtree Lodge

Grose Vale

safari tent with small fireplace

Take a trip one-hour north-west of Sydney to this absolutely stunning private ranch-stay. Let’s just say, if you’ve got the type of four-legged furry legend who’s less about fancy cravats with their name embellished on the front and more about the great outdoors and big sticks, this pet-friendly accommodation is the place for you. Located on a 30-acre property, your safari-style set up here is completely surrounded by forest and by default—all the loose leaves and branches for your fluffy companion to chew on.

The idea is that you’ll get to hit some epic hikes, soak up beautiful sunset and sunrise views, swim in rivers and fresh waterholes, shower under waterfalls and even explore some local markets. When Fido is all tuckered out, run yourself a hot bubble bath in the outdoor, freestanding tub or stoke a fire with some marshmallows and a glass of the good stuff.

Eco Retreat Turon Gates

Capertee

log cabin in bush at night

Look, if there’s one place which is the holy grail of pet-friendly accommodation, it’s Turon Gates. The retreat’s first bush cabin was built back in the 70s and since then, this family owned and operated getaway has been number one for romantic holiday and family vacations with your loyal four-legged companions. There’s a myriad of accommodation styles to choose from here, from riverside log cabins to mountain cottages, camping to glamping—pick your poison. Go horse riding, kayaking, bushwalking, cycling or turn things back a notch and whip out a book, play some games or laze around in hammocks.

Arklow

Culburra Beach

balcony with bbq and dining table

Arklow is one of the best pet-friendly properties in NSW all down to its prime location. Perfect for the classic, family summer getaway, you’ll be within walking distance of Culburra Beach which is honestly dog heaven (off-leash between 4pm and 8am every day, and on-leash at all other times). Boasting three bedrooms, this two-storey house sprawls across a whole lot of space  with a spacious backyard and frontyard. You’ll also have Warrain Beach and Wollumboola Lake nearby for a spot of exploring too.

Coast

Gerringong

entertaining area

Simply put, Gerringong is easily one of the most beautiful areas in NSW. Located 10-minutes south of Kiama, this salty stretch of coastline sports a whole lot of seaside charm for you, your crew and however many canine friends you fancy. Coast is conveniently located about 200m off Werri Beach and packs a whole lot of punch with entertaining areas (perfect for sundowner BBQs), three bedrooms, patios, a grassy front yard and all the nearby activities.

In terms of pet-friendly things to do around the area, the list is endless. Jones Beach, Bombo and Werri Beach itself are all dog-friendly, as is Minnamurra Headland, Gerringong Headland and Black Head. You’ll also have the Kiama Coastal walk closeby too.

Haven on Halloran

Turvey Park

suburban cottage

This ideal getaway mixes pet-friendly accommodation with budget-friendly accommodation so it’s a double-whammy to say the least. The cottage can sleep up to six guests and is enclosed by a fence so any pets you bring along will be safe and sound. The entire property keeps numerous entertaining areas and also has the added bonus of a fully fenced swimming pool too (make sure to bring some fun inflatable pool toys).

Wollemi Retreat

Rylstone

bush property with large deck and jacuzzi

It’s no news that Mudgee is pretty much the place to be this summer so steer your rubber towards Wollemi Retreat, an award-winning eco retreat in the Mudgee area. This pet-friendly stay is perfect for weekend getaways or for when you’ve racked up some decent AL and you’re keen to jump off the wires for a bit. Hidden away on 100-acres of native bushland in the northwestern area of Wollemi National Park, you’re in for sweeping views of mountain ranges, an expansive deck area for all the book reading and board games, an outdoor jacuzzi and a wood-fired pizza oven.

Sticks And Flora

Culburra Beach

beach shack

Culburra definitely ticks all the boxes when it comes to pet-friendly holidays so we had to add another one from the area to this list. Sticks And Flora is a beach shack property that has been beautifully restored, filled with natural lighting and surrounded by gum trees. While travelling in style with any four-legged mates you have, more often than not, is kind of hard—this property lets you soak up some serious design cred. The dining area keeps bifold doors, there’s a front deck for long lunches, hardwood floors are any pet-lovers best friend and the beach is just an 800-metre walk down the road.

Normandie Cottage

Mudgee

country cottage

We mean, just look at her. At first glance, it may be hard to believe that Normandie Cottage is a pet-friendly stay in NSW but you best believe it is. Built back in the 1930s, Normandie is the type of cottage reminiscent of something straight out of a picture book and yes, you’ll want to make sure you stay within its stunning walls at least once in your lifetime. The cottage has been built with an open-plan living area at the heart, featuring a modern, country kitchen, plus a patio and yard for BBQ-ing and some wide open space for any pets.
