We’re kicking off your Monday with some excellent, brilliant, wonderful news. Sydney is about to score a massive French cheese festival, where entry is free and there’ll be over a tonne (1,000 kilograms) of free European cheeses to sink your teeth into. Too good to be true? Nope. This is not a drill.
Called Bon Fromage, the three-day festival has been masterminded by some pretty serious French cheese pros (the Centre National Interprofessionel de l’Economie Laitière, to be exact) along with the European Union. So yeah, it’s legit.
As well as all that free cheese, Bon Fromage will feature free masterclasses where you’ll learn essential life skills like matching cheese to wine, beer or gin; the difference between creamy and stinky cheese and the tasty history of French cheese.
You’ll also be able to shop cheese and cheese platters, and there’ll be a wine bar to (appropriately) wash down all that delicious cheese.
A couple of local heroes are stepping in to create one-of-a-kind cheese-inspired dishes too. There’ll be a French cheese dessert from Koi Dessert Bar, French cheeseburgers by BL Burgers and, the holy grail of cheesy foods, raclette from Surry Hills’ charming French spot, Loluk Bistro.
