Restaurants

Nativo Mexican

For a taste of traditional tacos and uncomplicated snacks just like the street-side stalls of Oaxaca offer, Pyrmont’s Nativo Mexican is a must-visit, with seats for 14 customers (but plenty of room to scoff tacos while standing).
Restaurants

White + Wong’s

If you love flavour and sharing a spontaneous meal amongst fifteen of your favourite friends, then this eclectic street food diner is right up your alley—with a menu stacked full of dishes to take your tastebuds from China to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Demochi Donut Bar

When it comes to food mashups, we’ve had some pretty heroic and outrageous creations in recent years. The cronut is a crowd favourite, but who can forget cruffins, waffle-doughnuts (also known as wonuts) and the delicate, not-sure-we-needed-it macaron-doughnut (macaronut).

Frank’s Original Philly Cheesesteak & Dogs

Sure, Frank’s Original Philly Cheesesteak and Dogs has a permanent shopfront in Wetherill Park. But their a portable version is in a bus. And all aboard, we say. You’ll find six versions of the Philly cheesesteak here, but all have the same delicious base: thinly sliced rib-eye steak, cheese (“American”, provolone, or the gloriously yellow Cheez Whiz) and grilled onions, piled on a real-deal amoroso bread roll.
Cafes

Banh Xeo Bar

Fusion both inside and outside of the kitchen, English Ben Sinfield and Vietnamese Tania Ho fell in love after meeting at work in London’s St John restaurant. After moving to Australia, Ben worked as sous chef at Chippendale’s Ester, and Paddington’s Fred’s and we’re pretty sure you know by now that this one’s going to be good. They’ve combined their cultural heritage and passion for food to open up a Banh Xeo Bar at The Cannery, Rosebery and it’s exactly what you’re thinking.

Duo Duo Ice Cream

Prepare to throw any semblance of healthy eating out the window, team. There’s a new ice cream truck in town and (wait for it) they’re serving pimped scoops of deep fried ice cream. We still have no freaking idea how deep fried ice cream really works, but what we do know is a creamy scoop of goodness wrapped in a crispy shell is a damn good idea. Always.

Over The Moo

From one (lactose intolerant) ice-cream lover to another, you’ll be over the moon to hear that Over the Moo have taken to Sydney’s roads (see what we did there?), bringing their vegan gelato goods with them. As Sydney’s first ever dairy-free ice-cream truck, Over the Moo was founded by Alexander Houseman, who felt that there was a severe lack of tasty dairy free alternatives in our fair city—and we couldn’t have agreed more..

El Qahirah

Sydney’s first ever Egyptian food truck has finally arrived and these guys are serving up Cairo’s three most traditional—and delicious—dishes. All three are vegetarian and jam packed with flavour as you’d expect, plus they’ve got a whole lot of superfoods in them to boot—yes we’re serious. This one is the Taameva, served in a traditional balady flatbread pouch, with tomato, cucumbers, pickles, radish and tahini, these super food patties are like falafels but better. We’ve also got our eye on the Koshary, lentils, macaroni and rice topped with Middle Eastern spiced tomato sauce and may or may not be drooling at the thought of it.

Knafeh

Knafeh Bakery is the latest and greatest pop-up bakery, focusing on Middle Eastern street food, this family-run food truck has seen raging success. The entire production is run within a converted shipping container, with beautiful street art designed to take customers straight to the Middle East. Knafeh is a sweet dessert, made with sweet cheese or cream, finished with pistaschios and soaked in sugar-based syrup. Yum! The knafeh served by the Knafeh Bakery is made using a family recipe, and the chefs hope that sharing this dessert with Sydney will bring together people from many different races, religions and cultures, to share a love of food and tradition. We’re sold on the sound of that delicious sugar syrup!
