Photographers and romantics chase the tangerine hues that golden hour brings, where the sun sits low on the horizon and photos are illuminated with a warm glow. And now, Sydneysiders can chase it too—with a cocktail in hand, of course.

Basil Hayden—the master Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey maker—is showcasing their signature Golden Hour cocktail in pop ups across Sydney. A crisp, citrusy cocktail, Golden Hour is made up of just three ingredients—Basil Hayden bourbon whiskey, Lillet Blanc, and Aperol. As the weather warms up, you’ll be able to sample the cocktail or flights of Basil Hayden from behind a hidden door in Manly, at a New York-style bar in Potts Point and in a sprawling venue in The Rocks.

Hickson House

This award-winning spot needs no introduction, but for the unacquainted Hickson House is a sprawling distillery, bar and restaurant housed in a luxe renovated warehouse in The Rocks. At the Golden Hour Whiskey Dinner you’ll be treated to a Golden Hour cocktail on arrival, followed by food paired with four premium bourbons. Picked your new poison of choice? Walk away with a bottle of whiskey at a discounted price from Hickson House’s bottle shop, Barrel House Cellars.

Roosevelt

The opulent, New York-style Roosevelt is a prime spot for a cocktail. On Saturday, 7 October, join James B. Beam Distilling Co Ambassador Alice Newport for an afternoon with Basil Hayden. At the one-off event you’ll start with a Golden Hour cocktail before sampling a range of bourbons from a tasting flight—they’re even including a single cask whiskey that's unavailable in Australia. Canapes will be served to accompany your tasting experience.

The Cumberland

Behind a fridge door in Manly you’ll find The Cumberland, a luxe cocktail bar that was practically designed for date night. Sample whiskey by the dram alongside Basil Hayden's Golden Hour cocktail.

Frank Mac’s

Home to an extensive gin collection, Frank Mac’s is a G&T lover’s paradise. But that’s not all this schmick bar in The Rocks serves. The Basil Hayden Small Batch Experience will kick off with a Golden Hour cocktail, followed by a tasting of small batch bourbons. While you’re tasting, you’ll be treated to a cheeseboard.

Can't make it? Celebrate golden hour at Frank Mac’s music sundowners every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during October and November.

Jackalberry

The Hyatt hotel’s easy, breezy Jackalberry, which is inspired by the age of exploration, plucks you right out of Sydney’s CBD—not literally unfortunately. During the month of October, you can work your way through a whiskey flight and sample some of the best on the market—including Basil Hayden.

Basil Hayden is an artfully aged, approachable bourbon from the American home of whiskey, Kentucky. Check out the full range and try it for yourself.
