There’s nothing better than a refreshing drink to take the edge off the summer heat. Our drink of choice this summer? A light, bubbly and downright delicious Toki highball.
If you’ve never tried the Japanese whisky, this is your sign to give it a whirl. Even better, sample it at Sydney's rebellious izayaka, Kid Kyoto, while the restaurant is serving up its limited-time dish alongside a Toki highball this month.
We challenged Kid Kyoto's Head Chef, Rhys Watson-Lamb, to create an exclusive dish that pairs perfectly with a refreshing Toki highball. The result? A delicious take on a tepanyaki favourite: duck tsukune that you simply have to try.
Let us talk you through the dish. Seasoned duck mince is moulded into a sausage-like shape on a skewer then grilled to perfection over fiery coals and served with sesame leaf, creamy salted egg sauce and togarashi. To eat it, Watson-Lamb recommends wrapping the sesame leaf around the meat and removing the skewer, then topping it with a hefty blob of the sauce. Paired with a classic Toki highball, it’s a match made in snack heaven.
New to Toki? It's a Japanese whisky from the legends at House of Suntory. The word toki means 'time' in Japanese and the spirit is an innovative blend of three whiskies from three renowned distilleries—Hakushu, Chita and Yamazaki that pays homage to both Japan's respect for tradition and its innovative spirit.
The Toki highball itself is simplicity at its best. Over ice, 30ml of the Japanese whisky is topped with soda water and is served with a twist of lemon—refreshing, easy to drink, and most importantly, delicious.
