Homer Rogue Taverna Brothers To Open Sydney’s First Ouzeri

One year after opening Homer Rogue Taverna, brothers Harry and Mario Kapoulas are expanding their Cronulla footprint with a second venue that shifts the lens from the communal Greek table, to the Greek aperitif. Set to open in the laneway next door, Volta is a 60-seat wine bar and ouzeri, a no-brainer when it comes to the city’s longstanding affection for Greek hospo.

Where Homer, easily one of Sydney's best Greek restaurants, has been intentionally structured as a full restaurant, Volta is being pitched as the more casual, walk-in-only room for drinks and lighter plates, designed to catch the pre or post-dinner drop-in crowd.

If you’ve ever been to Greece, ouzo—the country’s anise-forward national spirit, is typically served diluted with water over ice, often alongside a crisp plate of seafood, pickles, dips and fried snacks. At Volta, the drinks list will lean heavily into that tradition, with more than 20 ouzos on offer alongside a wine program spanning Greek and international producers.

Design-wise, Volta will champion the same industrial materiality of Homer but in a smaller footprint geared more overtly towards, you guessed it, the drink. A communal table will run through the centre of the room, with additional outdoor seating in the laneway. Textured rugs, leather seating and an open-plan bar will also make an appearance.

For the Kapoulas brother’s, Volta (Greek for 'to go out'), rounds out the trio of venues they’ve built within a few doors of each other, coffee at HAM, dinner at Homer, and from October, ouzo and wine at Volta.

Volta will be located at 4/3 Surf Lane Cronulla, from Wednesday to Sunday. We’ll keep you up to date with details as they roll through.
